The family made their home in Manning where he purchased the Jensen Barbershop in 1961. Gerald operated Schulte Barbershop until June of 2017 when Alzheimers Disease forced him to retire. He then moved to Sunnybrook in Carroll until November of 2020 when he became a resident of Manning Senior Living.
Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning and the Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a boy scout leader and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Those who sat in his barber chair, would certainly recall his fondness for camping, boating, skiing, fishing in Canada, working on cars, and spending time with his family.

"Peggy and Family, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I got to know Gerald at Sunnybrook of carroll. He liked going out to help assist me as and others in the garden, with the flowers, or just enjoy the sunshine outside. He liked going on on outtngs such as going to storm lake to a museum, to Denison for ice cream and to Yellowsmoke to look around and to Manning. He really liked the outing he helped plan for a date with his beloved wife Peggy, he picked her out Flowers with my assistance at hy vee and he went on a dinner date with Peg and another couple of friends. He was so delighted about this!! He enjoyed playing cards and listening to music. He even assisted a few of the ladies cooking and nakiy blankets for the babies at St.Anthony hospital. I will remember his smile and great character?? May he rest in peace and may the Lord be watchful during this different time. Gerald I\'m glad to have met you ??"

"Peg and family, you have my deepest sympathy. Jerry was a good guy! Having four boys, I called him often for haircuts. 653-2856. I will always remember his number and his kindness. One time he called me at work to make sure Jake could get a \"bowl cut\" (back in the 90s!) before he cut his hair."
