Dale Wingert
June 24, 1938 - April 1, 2021

Funeral Mass for Dale Wingert, 82, of Wesley will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Andrews Post #428, Wesley. The funeral Mass and graveside will be live-streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services' Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/oakcrestfuneralservices Social distancing practices will be followed and masks are required.

Dale Harold Wingert was born June 24, 1938, in Waterloo, the son of Clare and Hertula (Wolf) Wingert. He grew up near LuVerne on the family farm and graduated from St. Joe High School in 1956. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 4, 1957. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. Dale was proud to serve his country and was honorably discharged on June 3, 1960.

He was united in marriage to Lois Cecilia Becker on October 26, 1963, in St. Benedict. Together they raised their eight children in Wesley until her death on March 7, 1983. Dale worked for Hormel for 30 years, retiring in 2000.

Dale loved nothing better than spending time with his large family, telling jokes, reading and learning new things, shopping for shoes and coats, fishing, attending horse shows, throwing horseshoes, and playing cards. For more than 40 years, Dale played slow-pitch softball for the Wesley Flyers, his hometown team. He also enjoyed helping local farmers out in the spring and fall, driving around, smoking, drinking diet Mountain Dew, and enjoyed sweets. In 2019, Dale was inducted as an honorary Hobo "Ol' Buck," and he was very honored to be chosen.

Dale died Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home in Wesley. He was 82.

He is survived by his children, Lisa Wingert of West Des Moines, Lynn Wingert of West Des Moines, Leah (Bill) Gillen of Norwalk, IA, Lara (Daryl) Kleier of Wesley, Dana (Tami) Wingert of Des Moines, Lacy (Jason) Halsrud of LuVerne, and Lany (Matt) Mitchell of Wesley; grandchildren, Brooke (fiancé David Kalvig) Gillen, Garrett (Sarah) Gillen, Noah and Natalie Kleier, Brandon, Levi and Taylor Wingert, Molly Wingert, Tyson, Kennedy, Carson, Montgomery Halsrud, and Ruby Dayle and Daisy Mitchell; siblings, Garry Wingert of Alamosa, CO, Monte (Wilma) Wingert of Tucson, AZ, Karen (Pat) St. John of Wesley, Sister Julia Wingert of Dubuque, Toby (Tena) Wingert of Alcova, WY, and Stephen (Marla) Wingert of Wesley, and Petra McVey of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Kathy Wingert of Prescott, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois; son, Deon; brother, Roger Wingert; sister, Margaret Wingert; in-laws, Ray and Louise Becker; sister-in-law, Yolanda Wingert; and brothers-in-law, Mike McVey and Duane Becker.
