Darla Norton
January 2, 1943 - March 29, 2021

Darla Kinne Norton, 78, of Quincy, died March 29, 2021 at Sunset Home. Darla was born in Pike County near Barry, Illinois on January 2, 1943, the daughter of Dewey Jr. and Edna Conkright Kinne. She married Gary Norton on June 29, 1962 in Nokomis, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, DeAnna Norton of High Point, NC and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her father Dewey Jr, mother Edna Huntley, sister LuAnn Sevier and step-father Norman Huntley.

Darla graduated from Barry, Illinois High School (1961) and Gem City Business College (1962). Later she attended classes at University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Junior College and finished up with a BS in Business Administration from Culver Stockton College (1995).

She had various secretary jobs but the most interesting was for the Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Departments at the University of Missouri at Rolla while her husband was attending college there. She helped out with numerous tasks while typing research or thesis papers for professors and students. After her husband graduated they moved to Tulsa, OK where she became a Certified Petroleum Landman. Before the internet, she became an excellent researcher looking for owners of oil and gas mineral rights. She traveled all over Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Colorado securing oil and gas leases for various petroleum companies. When she and her husband moved to Quincy, she turned her researching skills to Real Estate Title work at Goehl, Schuering & Cassens. After they moved to Peachtree City, GA, she continued Real Estate Title work at Warner Law Firm in Georgia. Upon moving back to Quincy, she retired.

She truly enjoyed her "Out to Lunch" and (Hand & Foot) card playing sessions with her lady friends. She was also active with the newcomers coffee and movie sessions. The bus trips to Noah's Ark, Biltmore in NC and Albuquerque, NM were also things she really enjoyed.

Memberships included Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church, DAR, Quincy Newcomers Club and Red Hat Society.

Darla had many interests which included painting (oil, acrylic, water colors etc.), arts & crafts, knitting, family Ancestry searches, reading and cooking. She had a beautiful gift for painting mostly scenic views and wildlife. She was a constant reader of books. She loved to cook and try new recipes. If she or her family liked the recipe, she had a keeper list which she kept for use again. She was a lovely devoted wife and mother to her family. She was the life of a party and would always lend a hand to a friend in need. She was much loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Wilson officiating. Please wear a mask if you plan to attend.

Visitation: 10:00 - 11:00 am on Thursday April 8, 2021 at Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church. Please wear a mask if you plan to attend.
