James L. Matney
January 2, 1939 - March 24, 2021

James L. Matney, 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. James was born on January 2, 1939 to the late Ralph and Annabelle Matney. He graduated from Summitville High School in 1957, and then attended beauty school and EMT school. He worked for RCA as a laborer from 1957-1964, and then for Delco-Anderson as a mold setter for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He also worked as a hairdresser in Summitville for Doris's Beauty Shop and as an EMT and fireman for Summitville during the sixties and seventies. On May 29, 1958, he married the love of his life, Rosemary, and she survives. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as a reader, Eucharistic Minister, commentator, and RCIA Instructor. He was an instructor of American Round Dancing.
James is survived by his wife, Rosemary; son, Dorin (Sue) Matney, Alexandria; Nancy (Brian) Kirkwood, Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Timi (George) Helms, Hartford City; brothers, Lawrence (Deloris) Matney, Albany, and Bart (Laura) Matney, Summitville; sisters, Mary Lou Ice, Muncie, and Marjorie Diane Smith, Summitville; grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn) Gilliam, Sam Shelton, Annie (Kevin) Cool, Zachariah Matney, Spencer (James) Shelton, Lyndee (Kurt) Russell, Abbie (Eddie) Martinez, Andrew Matney, Mahala (Josh) Charnley, and Noah Matney; and great-grandchildren, Bella Rose Russell, Maelyn Russell, Laken Cool, and Lettie Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Annabelle, and his son, Mark Matney.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, where a visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation with Father Hurley officiating. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
