In loving memory of

Charles Miller
July 3, 1963 - March 21, 2021

Charles Townsend "Charlie" Miller , age 57, of Quincy, died on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at 11:30 am in his home.

Charlie was born July 3, 1963 in Ripon, Wisconsin, the son of James Paul and Mary Jean Barclay Miller.

Charlie was a graduate of Quincy High School and attended Culver Stockton College and graduated from Southern Illinois University.

Charlie was employed as an occupational career placement recruiter in Chicago, where he helped many people secure work. Charlie also worked as a shipping and receiving associate at Sears and Bergners at the Quincy Mall. He was also employed as a tree trimmer with a company that maintained the power lines. His biggest responsibility in the last several yeas was spending time providing care for our mother, Mary Jean Miller, as she slowly progressed from dementia to Alzheimer's disease. While she is now at Good Samaritan Home, our mother was hesitant to go into a care facility and having Charlie with her allowed her to stay in the comfort of her home for at least ten more years. Our family is grateful for the love and care Charlie provided for mom when she needed him.

Charlie loved sports as both a spectator and participant. His beloved Minnesota Vikings broke his heart many time but his loyalty never wavered. He lived in Chicago when the Chicago Bulls were winning their championships and he loved watching Michael Jordan play.

On the playing field Charlie was a fierce competitor from a very young age he excelled as a sharpshooter in basketball and a terrific shortstop in baseball. Our family had a ping pong table in the basement and he beat me (Tom) every time, well except once he did let me win only because I refused to play anymore; we must have played a thousand times.

Charlie's favorite sport was Ultimate Frisbee, and he played for Full Tilt in Carbondale IL, Quincy Ultimate and Team Chech in Chicago. He was beloved by all his teammates for his play on and off the field. Some of them described Charlie on social media as an Iconoclastic Legend, always a smile on his face and a kind spirit. "The life of the party just left the party" He continued his love of disc sports with Frisbee golf and was a frequent player at the course in Moorman park.

In recent days he spoke of the fatigue caused by isolation due to the covid19 restrictions and he sorely missed visiting mother like he did prior to the pandemic. Still he did visit when possible and often would bake brownies and cookies for her and take her fruit. The separation and isolation for Charlie was difficult because he was very social.

Our beloved brother will be missed by so many and the suddenness of his death will take time to heal. Charlie, Charlie, Charlie!!

Survivors include his mother, Mary Jean Miller of Quincy; two sisters, Patty (Rich) Gould of Bridgeton, MO, and Leslie (David) Vella of Sequim, WA; a brother, Tom (Sandy) Miller of Greensboro, NC; five nieces and nephews, Katie Gould of Kansas City, MO, Jill Gould of St. Louis, MO, Kelly Gould of Nashville, TN, Casey Vella of Sequim, WA, and Ted Vella of Seqium, WA.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, James Paul Miller, and a brother, Scott Barclay Miller.

"Awww Charlie...sorry I missed you, having left Chicago in '99, but upon learning of your and Bose-man's untimely departure from John H., I knew I had to say goodbye. Glad I found your notice. Love what your family wrote about you, and you are a star for having helped your Mom through her last days. I tracked down the Hoevels the day of the Eve of the Eve, maybe just to reflect on the fun we had in the 90s, maybe to find out how you all were doing. I was saddened to hear of your passing, but I hope our paths cross again! Steve (DVS) Keller"

"Charlie what's the closest thing I had to an older brother he always shared what he loved with me and my younger brother. Whatever he did we always wanted to be just like him. He had the biggest heart and would give it all to somebody without it. He was the best Uncle you could ever have."

"Charlie would drop what ever he was doing to help somone. Dr s and therapist act like they care but they expect payment. Charlie did it All out of love. And never expected anything in return. A heart of GOLD. I can truley say he was pure of heart. Even though he was suffering. Which he did silently every day . "

"Charlie was my confidante. He was the type of person who would put everything aside. And focus on you. Drs and therapist do that because you pay them to. Charlie did it All out of love. How many people do you know that do that? He will never leave my heart i love you with all my heart charlie "

"Dear Miller Family, We remember the Miller Family well as neighbors many years ago. As we recall, Charlie was the youngest. Several months ago while at Jimmy Johns to pick up sandwiches we ran into Charlie and he recognized us immediately although many, many years had passed. At first we didn't know him but it certainly didn't take long and we began our conversation reminiscing about the years gone by. We are certain you will miss him and offer our sincere condolences. As ever, Dick & Pat Wentura"
