Audrey Wallace
June 18, 1939 - March 12, 2021

Audrey Elaine Humphrey Wallace, who was affectionately known as G-Mama, was born in New Bern, North Carolina on June 18, 1939 to the late John W. Humphrey and Cora Dawson Humphrey. She departed this life on Friday, March 12, 2021. Audrey was baptized and a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in New Bern, North Carolina until she moved to California in 1999. In San Diego, CA, she joined United Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor Ray L. Smith, where she served as Deaconess, Choir Member, Church Officer & Church Committees.

Audrey graduated from J.T. Barber High School in New Bern, North Carolina; and went on to attend A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. She returned to New Bern and worked as a Librarian Asst at West Street School before landing a position in the Emergency Room, at Craven County Regional Hospital, in New Bern, NC. Audrey retired from the Hospital in 1999, after 25+ years.

In San Diego, Audrey worked part-time at the 99 Cents Only Store...she was the "Go-Back" Queen. Her motto: I'm a 99er! --- Perfect position, because she enjoyed walking the aisles and TALKING with the customers. Also, Audrey was a Licensed Foster Mother with her daughter, Lorraine. During the past 20 years, Audrey has cared for 50+ children. Over the years, she was awarded, Foster Mom of the Year "Over & Beyond."

Volunteering was very important to Audrey. She donated and dedicated her time, energy, and efforts to the following: San Diego Young Artists Music Academy (MADA), Paradise Valley Manor & Heath Care Center (Recreation Dept), Malcolm X Library, etc.

Audrey leaves to cherish her memories: one Daughter, Lorraine Johnson-Mattox & one Son, Jonie Wesley Clark (Deborah) both of San Diego, CA; one Sister, Bernice Dawson Robinson, Moreno Valley, CA; one Aunt, Ethel Humphrey Miller, New Bern, NC. Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, one Niece, Her Best Friend, Lula Haynes-Poole and a Host of Cousins & Friends and Daughters & Sons "of the Heart,"

Audrey enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, puzzles, old Westerns & music.
