Hedy Michael, 86, passed away on March 9, 2021 in Phoenix Arizona at Honor Health Osborn hospital. She is survived by George "Billy" Velasquez who were sacramentally married on March 1, 2020. Hedy was previously married to Paul Michael on May 7, 1977 until Paul's passing in Phoenix on January 23, 2011.
Hedy was born in Oas Philippines on May 24, 1934. She was the youngest of 9 children to Jose Luna and Gliceria Arca. Hedy was raised and completed her studies in the Philippines. She moved to the United States on March 1, 1969 where she worked at the World Bank in Washington D.C. for 20 years. That is where she also met Paul.
Hedy's passion and love were dancing. While in Maryland she performed with the Hawaiian group Hui Aloha and also joined the Seasoned Players affiliated with RSVP who performed all across Maryland. Hedy and Paul resettled in Phoenix, Arizona in September 1995 to be closer to her sister Maneta Bautista. Shortly after, Hedy realized her one long time dream of forming her own group called Hedy and the Hula Hands for Hawaiian shows and also Hedy and the Red Hot Peppers for variety performances. Hedy and Paul moved to Palm Lakes Village in August of 2004. Hedy joined the Women's Club and performed in variety shows.
On January 23, 2011 Paul passed away and left an empty void in her life, but had many friends in the community to support her.
Hedy retired and disbanded her dance group on her 80th birthday in 2014. She continued to ballroom dance and Zumba. She took this time to also travel and visit friends. Hedy moved to Madison Meadows in 2019 and soon after met Billy on her trips to the cafeteria for meals and also her trips to church. They had a lot in common with a love of church and life and were sacramentally married on March 1, 2020.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020, on Monday March 22, 2021, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. The funeral service will be at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020, on Tuesday March 23, 2020 at 10:00AM. Burial and Internment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024 on March 23, 2021 at 12:30PM. A reception will be held shortly after at Palm Lakes Village club house located at 16415 N. 33rd Way, Phoenix, AZ 85032.
