Jack Eugene Kappel, 81, cherished husband, father, and grandfather passed away Saturday morning March 6, 2021 at his daughter's home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Washington, he lived there a few years and then the family moved to Montana. He loved exploring the hills, fishing, and football. He attended Hysham High School and played football until he quit school to help provide for the family. In December 1959, he enlisted in the Army. He served two overseas tours, one in Korea and one in France. Jack was honorably discharged in December 1962.
While living near Hysham, Jack met the love of his life, MaryJean Linford. They dated until he left for the Army. He would visit her when he was on leave. Once discharged, they married on August 24, 1963 in Lewistown, Montana. He adopted her daughter, Vickie Lynn in June 1966. Their son, Randon Thomas Kappel was born March 2, 1980. They were married 57 years.
Jack and MaryJean had a wonderful life. He worked as an assistant manager for F. W. Woolworth. In 1967, they decided Jack should complete his GED and attend college. MaryJean secured a teaching job in Seattle. Jack quit Woolworth and the family moved. He attended Seattle Community College while working part time. He then applied for and was accepted to the University of Washington and received his degree in Business Administration with an accounting major on June 10, 1972. In 1973, they moved to Carefree, Arizona where he became the accountant for several different companies. Eventually, he partnered with his son-in-law Bill Ferguson and together they ran Ferguson Electric until he retired in 2007.
Jack dedicated his life to his family, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Boy Scouts of America. He served in any capacity where he was needed. He touched many lives through his indefatigable church and scouting service. He received the District Award of Merit, Scoutmaster of the Year (1993), Outstanding Service Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He and MaryJean served a senior couples mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. They loved this opportunity to help others!
Jack loved to fish, run his rail up and down the hills of Flagstaff, read any and all kinds of books, travel with MaryJean, and tell awful jokes! We love him and will miss him!
