In loving memory of

JONATHAN J. "JON" "JD" DUNN
March 13, 2021

Jonathan J. "Jon" "JD" Dunn, 37, of Marquette, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at his home on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Jon was born in 1983 in Marquette to James and Ginny (Stanaway) Dunn and graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 2001. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Philippine Sea for four years. During his four years in the Navy he completed two Middle East tours and was able to travel extensively.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Jon pursued an Electrical Engineering degree at Michigan Tech and NMU. He then worked for Charter Communications and as a security officer at General Security Services, Marquette. In 2014, he began working at Potlatch, working his way up from Operator to Electrician, until the time of his death. He also worked part-time for Interiors by Design delivering furniture and installing blinds.

In his free time, Jon enjoyed boating, fishing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and hanging with his friends. He was also very mechanically inclined and could fix anything. His friends knew he would always be there to lend a hand, and was known for his great sense of humor and infectious laugh, and for always showing up late--known as "Dunn-time"--just like his dad.

He is survived by his loving mother, Ginny Lynn Dunn and a sister, Jacquelyn Dunn, both of Marquette; his aunt, Janice Dunn of Ocala, FL; two uncles, Dennis (Tanja) Stanaway of Ishpeming, and Russell (Andrea) Stanaway of Spokane, WA; and first cousins Gary (Maria) Stanaway and AJ (Lindsay) Stanaway of Ishpeming and Gregg (Brenna) Stanaway of Post Falls, ID and Rachel (Joe) Kyhl of Spokane. WA. He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Dunn in 2019; his paternal grandparents, Jack and Jacquelyn Dunn, and maternal grandparents, Garth and Joan Stanaway.

Jon was a good son and friend, kind, generous, and helpful, and was well-liked and respected by his co-workers and all who knew him.

A Celebration of LIfe for Jon will be held on Friday, August 13th from 4-7 p.m. at American Legion Post #44, 700 W. Bluff St. Marquette. Guests are invited to bring a picture to share and to join in sharing memories, food and refreshments to honor the life of this remarkable young man.

Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting Jonathan's family where memories may be shared at canalefuneral.com. Cards may be sent in care of Canale Tonella, 526 N. Third St., Marquette, MI 49855.
