George R. Miles Sr.
Greece: March 15, 2021. George is predeceased by his daughter, Jean Marie Gallina; parents, Allen & Rose Miles, Vera & Chuck Lanza; brothers & sisters, Robert, Richard, Sylvia, David & Eileen. He is survived by his children, George R. (Nina) Miles Jr., Cathy Slocum & Joanne (John) Thomas; spouse, Patricia L. Miles; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Allen Miles; sisters, Diane Mercer & Christine Ghysel; many nieces & nephews.

George served over 33 years in the United States Army and 27 of those in the National Guard. He loved and served his country & community with all of his heart. George guarded the Capitol and was assigned to the Honor Guard for President Truman as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. George also worked as an employee for the City of Rochester for over 30 years and was the former President of the New York State Mobile Home Association. George had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Bethel Full Gospel, Living Word Assembly of God & First Bible Baptist.

The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy at Maiden Park for taking such good care of their father.

George's life story will be shared during visitation 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, March 21st at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester NY 14626. His funeral service will be celebrated 10:00 am on Monday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors in Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu, NY.

George was born May 16, 1932 in Wolcott, NY to Allen and Vera Miles. George was one of 8 children. At age 9 they ended up in foster care. They were rough years for the kids. George was the one who took care of his siblings prior.

George became interested in the military at a very early age and at age 17 entered the US Army. He is a Korean War Vet and after 33 years, he retired from National Guard in 1998. In 2012 George participated in the Honor Flight.

George was a big animal lover, he enjoyed vacationing at Blue Mountain, he loved to watch war movies, zombie shows and listen to the news and political programs.

"When I was 13 he took me to see the movie platoon and I had a great time. He was a respected force in the military, active in the community and a good grandfather. "
