Verde Ann Schneider was born on June 29, 1928 to Frank and Frances (Andres) Schneider in Little Falls, MN. The family lived in Randall where Verde attended elementary school. She attended and graduated from Little Falls Community High School with the class of 1946. Verde Ann married the love of her life, William "Bill" Mahling, on July 8, 1948 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall. The couple first made their home in Randall then Little Falls.

Verde was passionate about serving others during her life. She worked at St. Gabriel's Hospital for years. She was active and involved in many organizations and groups. Her door was always open to family and friends. With a strong cup of coffee and a good piece of pie, she listened to, laughed with and loved the people who came through her door. Verde enjoyed the simple things in life: reading, bowling, traveling, fishing trips to Canada; time playing cards, trying new recipes and was the best baker. She was an avid dog lover and spoiled every dog she owned. More than anything, Verde Ann treasured her time spent with family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Verde is survived by children: Steve Mahling of Cushing; Terry Mahling (and Rob Schmidt) of Minneapolis; Maureen (and Michael) O'Brien of Loomis, CA,; siblings, Robert Schneider of Arizona; Mary (and Al) McKeown of Kentucky; William "Bill" (and Jennifer) Schneider of Ontario; grandchildren, Erin (and Matt) Cox; Ryan Mahling (and Phuong Tran); Colin (and Becca) O'Brien; Allison (and Mike) Ryan and Sean (and Brooke) O'Brien; great-grandchildren, George and Verde Ann Cox, Andie O'Brien and Callum Ryan.

Verde was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Schneider; husband, William "Bill" Mahling; daughter, Anita Mahling-Nation and a sister, Carmen Powers.

Alter flowers can be sent to St. Mary's or memorials are preferred to the Morrison County Humane Society and the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls.

"My beautiful Aunt Verde, There were a few things I wanted to say at your burial Saturday, but wanted to give space for others to speak. I believe heaven is an even more beautiful place now with you in it. Your overriding virtues of kindness, gentleness, joy, and love; and your focus on harmony and family unity are the picture of you I will remember forever. That sweet smile, those dancing, deep blue eyes, and the way that everyone who walked into your home or your presence was made to always feel special-these were gifts you gave to the world Aunt Verde Ann. You were such a special Aunt. Even though I grew up 1000 miles away I always knew you loved me and I was always so excited to see you when we visited in the summers. Your home felt warm and welcoming, and it was always SOOO clean! As the years went on, I did not have the opportunity to see you as often, but loved your sweet comments on Facebook, and our occasional phone conversations. I will never forget your voice. You were a wonderful sister/mom to my mom (and Uncle Bill). With the age difference, Aunt Carmen was right. Mom and Bill and you and Bob and Carmen were almost two families within a family. The biggest bonus of that was that my mom felt like she had two moms. You were so wonderful to my mom, and your sisterhood, friendship, surrogate mother role has been an inspiration to me. I hope I can be half the big sister to my little brothers and sisters, as you, sweet lady. Your kind spirit will live on in those who knew you. Our lives have been blessed by your love. Now, rest in peace with all those who passed before you whom you are reunited with in God\'s love. We will be working hard to end up there with you one day (while enjoying ourselves in this world, and trying to leave it a better place-like you did.} Love always, Alison "

"Our deepest sympathy, condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the Mahling family in the loss of their mother. I new her for many years. I worked for Verde Ann and her husband for many years. She was a very sweet and wonderful woman to visit and talk with. Verde Ann always had a warm smile for everyone she meet. We would always visit after Sunday morning mass. She was an outgoing person. She will be sadly missed by all. May her soul Rest In Peace in heaven with our Heavenly Father. God blessings on the family. "
