Marilyn Graupman Scott

ROCHESTER - Passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. Marilyn was born on August 13, 1939 in Rochester, NY to Warren and Gertrude Graupman. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband Nicholas Marrone. She is survived by her loving daughters, Kathryn Cleary and Stephanie Haynes, her partner, Paul Brown, her cherished grandsons, Patrick and Mackenzie Cleary, her siblings, Nancy Larnder, Robert Graupman (Cher), Priscilla Graupman and a multitude of close friends, including the Timsina family and many clients.

Marilyn grew up in Hamlin, NY where her family owned several farms. Her parents were 2nd generation German immigrants. As a spirited young lady, she excelled in school and was involved in many activities. She graduated from Brockport High in 1957 and was voted the Harvest Queen in Hamlin. She went on to study general business at Rochester Business Institute. In 1960 she married her high school sweetheart George Haynes. During this time, she worked as a model, was an accomplished autocross driver, an avid sewer, and started developing an interest in cooking and entertaining. She also worked for Kodak as a secretary and they quickly recruited her to also model.

In the 70's, Marilyn entered the insurance and financial planning business and quickly excelled. She truly found her calling by helping clients, mentoring junior staff, and developing long term relationships. She officially retired at age 77 but continued to help clients until close to her death.

As Marilyn had such a passion for life, she had many interests including: volunteering, traveling, cooking and entertaining, fashion, mentoring, spiritual development, decorating, knitting, wreath making, gardening, creating floral arrangements, and more.

Most important to Marilyn though were her friendships and family. She was extremely trusting and always had time to nurture new and existing friendships. She was a positive role model for her daughters and provided never ending unconditional love and support to them. And nothing, brought her more joy then spending time with her grandsons.

She was fiercely loyal and despite many obstacles in her life, she never lost her optimism and can-do spirit. She was and will remain a bright light for all of those who were fortunate to know her. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Due to Coronavirus restrictions, there will be a private service for family only. A larger celebration of Marilyn's life is planned for August 2021.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Educational (529) Funds established for Gagan and Grishma Timsina by mailing checks, payable to the account guardian, Stephanie Haynes, with Timsina 529 Funds in the memo line, to 26-7 Great Wood Court, Fairport NY 14450. Alternately, donations can be made in Marilyn's name to the University of Rochester Home Care Hospice, 2180 Empire Blvd, Webster, NY 14580.
