In loving memory of

Gloria Afflick
March 24, 1945 - March 3, 2021

Little precious baby girl, Gloria Joan Smith born to Mary Laura Weaver-Smith and Omer Lewis Hill on March 24, 1945.

Overcoming many obstacles and struggles in life; her testimony today is that she is more than a conqueror and an overcomer in Christ.

At the age of eighteen believing she was still too young to walk with the Lord, she promised Him that if He would let her live her life until she was thirty like other "old ladies," she too would start going to church and give her life to Him. When she turned thirty the Lord reminded her of the vow and she began her journey with Him as promised. She accepted Christ as her Savior in 1975 and was baptized under the leadership of Elder James Buggs at Thompson Memorial Church of God in Christ.

Several years later she became a part of New Bethany Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Milton L. Hall. As she grew stronger and learned more of her Savior putting her faith in her Lord; she accepted the call as Missionary and was certified in 1982.

Gloria also made the decision to return and complete her high school education after dropping out her eighth-grade year. She received her equivalency certificate and later furthered her education attending Associated technical College in 1986, Sawyer Business College in 1988 and San Diego City College in 1991. She received her spiritual education with an Associated Degree in Biblical Studies at Emmanuel Bible College in 2001.

At a very young age she met and married Charlie Neal Smith and from this union came four adorable children Charles Neal Smith (Sandra); Tommy Lewis Smith (Connie); Glenn Bernard Smith (Tia) and YuVonne Pauline Smith (Stan).

Later separating from this union Gloria who was better known to her family and friends as Bootise, met and married Kenneth Wardell Thompson and they were blessed with a daughter YuVette Marie Thompson-Robinson (Archie) and a son Kenneth Wardell Thompson II (Marie).
Gloria decided to relocate in 1983 at thirty-eight years old to San Diego, CA where she met and married Christopher Afflick in 1986 who served in the U.S. Navy until his death.

From her six children came twenty-nine grandchildren and from her amazing grandchildren came thirty-four awesome and amazing great-grandchildren and six beautiful great-great-grandchildren.

Though not an easy journey while raising her six children she had a history of a great work ethic starting with working at Little Italy as a dishwasher. In 1970 she worked for Grant County Blind Association as a receptionist and secretary, 1975 Foster-Forbes Glass Company, 1977 Fisher Body Automotive Company and in 1980 as a secretary for Nation Guard Armory, 1988 Solar Turbine, 1990 Science Application International Corporation (SAIC). Gloria retired at the age of 60 in 2005. After retiring she became the Office Clerk at her church New Birth Kingdom Covenant Fellowship and personal secretary to the Pastor. For the past fifteen years she has been on a journey of rest from her life of labor.

On March 3, 2021 she reached her destination of rest, take comfort knowing our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend is now resting peacefully with her Lord. She was preceded in death grandparents by her grandparents; father Omar Hill; stepfather Alfred Pettiford; mother Mary Pettiford; brother Richard Eugene Smith and husband Christopher Afflick.

She leaves to carry on her legacy and memory some very special people she held dear to her heart her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sisters, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
