In loving memory of

LouJean Scott
May 20, 1932 - March 6, 2021

LouJean Scott, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 6, 2021, at her home.

A private graveside service and burial will be held at Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.

LouJean Kleinsmith was born on May 20, 1932 in Wheatland, Iowa, to Forrest August and Maureen Katherine (Thompson) Kleinsmith. Born during the Great Depression, LouJean spent her childhood packing a cardboard box to live with one relative after another.

She graduated from Elwood High School in May of 1951 and married her high school sweetheart, Dale A. Scott Sr. on June 8, 1951 in Elwood, Iowa.

They rented a farm north of Nashville until 1963 when they purchased a farm on Esgate Road and raised four children there. She lived with her husband of 67 years and was a true partner in their farm operation until his death on April 4, 2019.

LouJean was a good athelete. She participated in basketball, cheerleading, softball and track. She enjoyed rollerskating and square dancing.

LouJean's generosity was abundant. Family and friends all benefited from her gardening, baking, knitting and crocheting talents. Anyone stopping into visit would leave with leftovers after having first shared a delicious meal.

For the past three years, LouJean battled breast cancer. She fought courageously to have more time with family and friends, eventually choosing quality of life during her last days.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Kathy (Dave) Borcherding of Bettendorf, IA, John Charles (Cheryl) Scott of Fort Collins, CO, and Glenda Jo (Kipp) Smallwood of Littleton, CO; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dale A. Scott Jr., her husband, and beloved cat Mouse.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Crohn's Disease (due to a recently diagnosed granddaughter's condition) at www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org or a charity of the donor's choice.

The Carson Celebration of Life Center is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left at www.CarsonAndSon.com.

"To the Scott Family, my sincere sympathy for your Moms passing. Although she hated talking on the phone we kept it touch by writing a few times a year. I spent a Summer living on the Farm in the 70?s and was a hands on Farmer from New Hampsha... Took quite a bit of razing about not using our r?s. Roostas it was. She is now at peace with her two Dale?s."

" Dear LouJean Scott Family, We are sorry to hear of LouJean\'s passing. She was a wonderful neighbor. Her home-made angel food cakes were so delicious! Allen would help Dale with cattle, etc. and LouJean would send an angel food cake home with him- it was very much appreciated!! When we would visit, LouJean was always busy canning, baking, making home-made noodles, crocheting- always doing something. We feel privileged to have received a crocheted doily. She loved taking care of her flowers and watching the birds out at the feeders. We are thinking of you at this sad time. Sincerely, Allen & Helen Schnoor . "

"To the family of LouJean Valerie and I are saddened to hear of LouJean\'s passing. What a special lady she was! I remember her stories of the farm and she always had a twinkle in her eye when she talked about her family and especially the love of her life, Dale. So sorry to hear about her illness. I was wondering why I hadn\'t received any Christmas letters the last few years. She was always sending me updates since we moved. She was one of our most cherished patients and we always looked forward to our visits. May God give you comfort in the days ahead and know that she is resting in His care. Our thoughts are with you."

"More than my Aunt, my friend. She loved her family. Memories are what we have now. And if, in passing, a beautiful red cardinal begs your attention, notice quietly and smile, she sent one to say hello. She?s just a prayer away. "

"Was so sorry to get this news. We have been neighbors since 1963 when they moved into the farm on Esgate Road. My parents were very close to Dale and LouJean and I grew up with the kids. It was like a second home to me. I learned to knit and sew from LouJean. Our boys also grew up there. Whenever Dale need some help they were always ready to go bale hay or cut wood or what ever. This continued to this day with Nathan moving snow and getting the mail for LouJean whenever she needed him. Wonderful neighbors for so many years. She will be greatly missed by the Browne family."
