Velda Jane (Brandt) Smidt was born May 5, 1934 in Armstrong, daughter of Arthur and Anna (Manthie) Brandt. She grew up around Ledyard and Elmore, MN, graduating from Elmore High School in 1953.
On May 17, 1958, she was united in marriage to Wardden W. Smidt at Trinity Lutheran in Elmore, MN. Together they resided around the Titonka area and were blessed with three sons, Steve, Scott, and Sidney.
Velda worked as the dietary supervisor at the Titonka Care Center for many years. She also worked in dietary at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards with her friends, baking, gardening, and being on the farm. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, and grandchildren, cheering them on in all their activities. Velda was a member of Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka where she served on the Women's Circle.
Velda died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Titonka Care Center. She was 86.
Velda is survived by her husband, Wardden of Titonka; sons, Steve Smidt of Titonka, Scott (Pam) Smidt of Titonka, Sidney (Barbara) Smidt of Dandridge, TN; grandchildren, Siemen Smidt of Fayston, VT, Lexie Smidt of Titonka, Nicole Smidt of Titonka. She is also survived by her sister, RoseLyn Pearson of Crosslake, MN; brother, Robert Brandt of Litchfield, MN; brothers-in-law, Gary (Joan) Smidt of Titonka, William (Mildred) Smidt of Titonka; sister-in-law, Fayann (Bernie) Weydert of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Marjorie (Walter) Vereide, Marlene (James) Meyers, and Doris (Robert) Hagedorn; and brother, Arlo Brandt; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Jerry) Jones, and Ellen Smidt.
