Growing up, his childhood was one filled with adventures year round. Matt attended Cheat Lake Elementary and Junior High, followed by University High, where he was fortunate to be with the wonderful Class of 2004. He played ice hockey and was a member of the University High Golf Team. Aside from team sports, he loved water skiing, snowboarding, and his favorite, skateboarding.

He studied at Pratt Institute for Art in NYC, as well as attending a study abroad program in Italy before taking his first job. He was most recently employed with Xtech, headquartered in New Jersey.
Aside from Web Development and Graphic Design, he had a strong affinity for cars, working on them and attending rallies with friends. He loved animals, but most especially his WV brown dog, Petey. He carried a smile and a big heart everywhere he went, and his ability to make people laugh was well known, along with his strong hugs. He was always there to lend a helping hand or listening ear. "These pictures are the three Matts, and one of the ?Hubbub Yacht Club? with Margie holding baby Matt??"
"I met Matt only a few times. I was in town visiting my son as he was going through a rough patch. Matt knew that and stopped by to check on him. Matt treated my son, Colin like a little brother. Colin returned the favor, loaning him his BMV anytime Matt?s car struggled to start. He gave Matt his own key. Colin trusted him that much. Though I didn?t know Matt well, I saw the pain on Colin?s face telling me how special Matt was and the loss Colin feels losing him. Your son was a good man. He will be missed! Julie Steitz"
"Margie, I am so sorry for your loss. Matt was the little boy I babysat a few times in Woodburn back in the 80?s. My youngest daughter, Juliana, was born in 1987 and was a friend of Matt?s. May God grant your family peace and comfort as you grieve this great loss. Joyce Royse"
"I moved onto matt?s road about 6 months ago, he was the first person to introduce himself and make us feel welcomed into the neighborhood. he quickly became a close friend to my roommate an I as well as pete. there was never a dull moment in matt?s presence, i?m very thankful to have met him and been able to call him my friend. he always had a positive outlook on any situation. he was such an amazing person to know and live next to. it definitely won?t be the same around here without matt and pete."
"I have no pictures but live two houses up from Matt. Remember he and Pettie playing in the yard while I was washing my car, or seeing Matt fly past the house on that skate board. Always got to say a few words in the morning or evening as I was outside. Miss Matt. Dan"
"I moved to Matt\'s neighborhood in 1994 when Matt was a bright, energetic, and fun young man. I loved seeing him grow and mature. He always radiated his inner goodness. I will miss him. Aloha, Matt. Bill Reger-Nash "
"Aunt Margie, Uncle John, Cousin Michael and Justin.......I remember the day when Matt was born....I was in the 9th grade waiting for the school bus at the bottom of the driveway and mom telling me I had a new cousin weighing in at greater than 10lbs and being so very excited then meeting him over the holidays. Unfortunately our family has drifted apart as many do in this busy activity we call life. I remember Matthew visiting with his father one summer and remarking how intelligent and bright he was as my father gave him science questions and riddles to challenge his mind and keep him entertained in the otherwise adult company, and unfortunately I lost touch; only wishing him a happy birthday via Facebook for a couple of years. I feel terrible I never truly got to know my cousin, and I never even knew of his struggles with life. Often times we get so caught up with the pressures and busy multitasking of life to realize just how precious and fragile life truly is and how fast things can change. My heart goes out in particular to my aunt and uncle and cousins. I cannot even fathom the pain and grief and sense of loss one feels losing their child or their brother. I love you all and think of you often despite the distance that has separated our family over the years. Many precious memories of all of you. Matthew.....you were and still are loved by many, and I wish I for One had been better at making that known to you. Rest In Peace Matthew and comfort and blessings to the surviving immediate family and friends. Amanda Hunt"
