Jim Price, age 86, a resident of Dos Palos passed away in his home on Sunday, July 6, 2014 after a long illness.
Born January 17, 1928 to Benny and Esther (Stone) Price in Elgin, Texas, Jim served in the US Navy at the end of World War II and the beginning of the Korean Conflict.
Jim was married to Terry Carver of Portland, Oregon on December 27, 1950. They remained married until his death. They had three children: Diane Price, James S. Price Jr.,
and Michael Price.
After his discharge from the Navy, Jim worked in the aerospace industry as a mechanic. He was hired by Convair at Edwards Air Force Base near Lancaster, California. Jim worked on experimental aircraft while at Edwards AFB. He was honored to have worked with many famous test pilots including the highly decorated World War II fighter pilot, Chuck Yeager. Jim worked on the F-106 "Delta Dart" flown by Major Joe Rogers that set a world speed record in 1959 for a single engine aircraft. The world speed record set by the Delta Dart still stands today. Jim also worked on the Atlas and Titan intercontinental ballistic missile programs for General Dynamics. Jim was proud of the role these missile systems played in keeping the peace during
the Cold War.
In order to spend more time with his family Jim relocated to Dos Palos in 1966. He worked for the Central California Irrigation District ("CCID") as a Canal Tender. Jim took pride in running his section of the Colony Main Canal like a finely tuned jet engine. He enjoyed the friendship and company of his farming clients, irrigation crews and maintenance workers alike. He retired from CCID after 20 years of service. Jim and his wife Terry have lived in Dos Palos since then.
In late 1972, his daughter Diane sustained catastrophic injuries in an auto accident. Jim and his wife Terry cared for their severely handicapped daughter in their home for over 20 years before her death. He never gave up hope that she would someday regain consciousness. She never did. His love and commitment to Diane never wavered. He was a good man with a big heart. By God's grace we pray they are now together.
Jim is survived by his wife Terry of Dos Palos; his son, "Little Jim" and his daughter-in-law Pamela Price of Sonoma, CA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents his brother Robert Price of St. Paul, Minnesota, his daughter Diane, and infant son Michael.
The Price family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Jim would wish all of his friends and family to drink a toast to his memory. and as Jim would often say after a wonderfully told story. "that's all she wrote..."
