Robert Lee “Bob” Norton, a long-time resident of Los Banos, died peacefully in his sleep on the 8th of November at Westside Elderly Care. He was born on July 3, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri, the youngest of four children born to Hester Lee (Jackson) and Arthur Lee Norton. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from high school in 1940. He was senior class president and played baseball and golf.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and moved through various postings until the outbreak of World War II. He attained the rank of Torpedoman First Class and was assigned to a destroyer tender in the Pacific. While on shore leave in San Francisco, he met his future wife Maria (Fagundes). They were married in Los Banos in 1945.
Bob was member of Our Lady of Fatima Society for over 50 years, and the Knights of Columbus, attaining the 4th Degree, for over 60 years. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, a strong desire to help others, and dedication to family throughout his long life.
Bob is survived by his son, Chad, daughter-in-law, Renee, and two granddaughters, Caitlin and Carly, of Pasadena California. He was predeceased by Maria and his three siblings.
The Norton family extends its deepest appreciation to Dennis Rodrigues, Maria Tostado and the entire staff at Westside Elderly Care for the love and support they provided to “Uncle Bob” over the past several years.
Services will be held on November 17, 2015, beginning with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 1840 Center Avenue, Los Banos. A burial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Los Banos Cemetery.
