"It never gets easier to hear of the passing of a loved one. Uncle Duane was such a sweet, dear person. I remember with great fondness the times that he visited Stark Farms. The baking experience with him was wonderful because we learned about Uncle Duane's passion as he taught us brand new skils, and who doesn't like frosting! I remember the day that Uncle Duane, Aunt Mabel, Skippy and Debbie left for California. It impressed me so because we knew that he was headed for a risky heart surgery that was still quite experimental. To think that God gave him life into his 80s is truly a blessing. I remember Uncle Duane showing us a photo of either Ernie or Dale, and it was like viewing my brother Bill's face. We have excellent DNA, and it is remarkable how much cousins can look so mych alike. I also remember Aunt Mabel and Uncle Duane visiting my house as a relatively new bride/cook. I fixed the best pot of chili for them with good old chili powder. It turns out that the spice was truly older than i thought and had hatched some little bugs and they were floating on top of the chili!!! Hahahah! Yes, they both had a tremendous sense of humor. I also recall ironing vibrant maple leaves one autumn for Aunt Mabel. She really missed the colors of NY! Even though we lived three thousand miles apart, you can never lose the love of the Palmberg family members. May God comfort you during this season of grief. My Mom, Tedi Palmberg Stark, adored her little brother, and I am sure they are reunited."

"To all of Duane's (Carl's) loved ones---
I will always have such happy memories of my little brother. We were so saddened years ago when he and Mable left with little Debbie and Danny to begin a new life in California.
As it happened, it saved his life because of his heart problems and he lived a long and happy life and raised a lovely family.
He was a special brother; always sweet, happy and easy-going.
He entertained us family reunions with corny jokes and funny stories.
So fill your minds with happy memories and each day will be brighter.
I send my love and best wishes to all of you. Wish I could have known you.
Fondly, Beverly Palmberg Conway
My husband, Dave, also remembers Duane fondly and send his condolences."

"I was 4 years old when I was the flower girl for Uncle Duane and Aunt Mabel's wedding in Buffalo, New York. My mom made my long dress from a dress she'd worn for Aunt Tedi and Uncle Jimmy's wedding...it was beautiful. My dad made a hoop from coat hangers and mom sewed it into the bottom of the dress...that made it special. The wedding party went onto the church altar for the ceremony and as I tried to come back down afterwards, my hoop got caught in the gateway and I was stuck. My dad jumped up and turned the hoop sideways so I could escape!
Years later when I was a teenager Uncle Duane and Aunt Mabel would visit and he'd teach me some of his master baking skills...like piping icing out of a wax paper bag.
He was always so happy and loved to make everyone laugh at his silly jokes! He was a loving man with a God-made then a human repaired heart...Heaven is his rest and he deserves it! Love to all of you here and beyond, Linda Conway Keenan"

Jamie and I loved having you and Grandma come visit us in the mountains when we were young. I am happy to know how much you were loved and you will be forever in my heart. "
