Ed was born in Faribault, Minnesota to the late Evelyn Dokken and George Hanson. He is a Vietnam Veteran. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1956-1976 as Air Traffic Control and early Warning Systems.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Ed proudly worked as a California State Park Ranger from 1977-1987.
Ed enjoyed working as a freelance photographer from 1981-1984. He truly enjoyed photography, hunting, camping, and fishing and had enormous love for his family and cherished his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Edward Charles Mentz III.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene Mentz, two sons: Ed (Louisa) Mentz, Jr. and Steve Mentz, one daughter, Theresa (Shane) Overton, nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
