Jerry briefly attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before joining the Navy. He served in the US Navy from January 5, 1951 to October 28, 1954. Jerry belonged to the Dos Palos Y Service Club, the Dos Palos American Legion, and was a Dos Palos volunteer fireman.
His family was by far his first priority and he was loved and admired by all. He was known to be an excellent cook and loved family gatherings. He was proud of his Italian heritage which was evidenced through both his homemade pasta sauce and Italian vocabulary lessons, which coincidentally mostly were centered on food and eating. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family who will continue to cherish his memory.
Jerry is survived by his wife Dorothy Ann Cozzi of 63 years from Dos Palos who describes her husband as “very affectionate, loving, hardworking and took pride in his yard.” She shares she lost her best friend. They were rarely seen apart.

"Kenneth (Ray) Huckobey sends his sympathy. He said they went into the Navy together with others from Dos Palos. A great friend."

Travis Cozzi wrote on Sep 30, 2018:

"The best uncle anyone could of ever had. I'll never forget all the good memories I have of my uncle Jerry. The first time hearing country music and helping to get one of my dirt bikes out of a canal with the tractor are just a couple of so many I will always remember. He was always there for me no matter what was going on in my life, nothing but kind caring words and advice. Each time a family member had passed uncle Jerry would be the one right by side comforting me. Now he is being comforted in the loving arms of Jesus, reunited with waiting family. Until the day we are together again i will cherish the time we had. I love you uncle Jerry."
