In loving memory of

David Lewis Bryant
March 9, 1940 - February 20, 2021

David Lewis Bryant passed away on February 20, 2021, just shy of his 81st birthday. He was born in Austin, Texas, to Arnold and Mattie Bryant.

David worked in the insurance industry for 46 years, the last 16 for the Texas Department of Insurance. After he retired in 2004, he worked 10 years as a driver for Enterprise Rent A Car. David was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and of the men's breakfast group. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Although he would deny it, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his brothers, something he said meant the world to him. They attended Nascar races together and even participated in driving race cars at Texas Motor Speedway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Arnold; his second wife, Sandra Oertli Bryant; and his son-in-law, Jim Mundine. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Teri Johnson (Steve), Teresa Bage (Greg), Stephanie Crowe (Brian) and Joshua Fancher; his brothers, Everett (Nancy) and Gene (Terri); his five grandchildren, Alex Johnson Corum (Brent), Harrison Johnson (Taylor), Jordan Mundine Marak (Aaron), Blake Mundine and Eva Crowe; his great grandson, Mason Edward Corum; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special companion, Lucky Dog, the Ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback mix he rescued from near starvation.

Besides spending time with his love, Linda, he loved being with his family. He was blessed to have three special daughters, one wonderful son, and three extraordinary sons-in-law. He always said there were few words that could describe how much each meant to him. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart and he was so proud of each one's accomplishments. He was thrilled to become a great grandfather.

Due to the pandemic, the family will have a private graveside service at Driftwood Cemetery in Driftwood, TX, officiated by the Rev. Billy Tweedie. A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 2200 Justin Lane, Austin, TX 78757. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

"I offer my condolences to the family of David Lewis Bryant. David was my classmate and friend for over 70 years, starting at Ridgetop Elementary School. We lived in the same general area and in our McCallum High School years David, Jimmy Davis, John Werchan and I rode to school in David\'s Chevrolet four-door sedan. The four of us liked to fish and occasionally after we took our dates home on weekends, we would meet and travel to Marble Falls to fish behind Max Starcke Dam. We caught a lot of white bass. The four of us enjoyed our times together. David was a genuine exemplary human being. Although we socialized very little in recent years, I shall miss him. Our planet is a poorer place when we lose the likes of a David Lewis Bryant. May the Creator grant the family solace."

"David was one of my favorite friends through Hyde Park Christian Church and McCallum High School. He was such a sweet, humble man. We were in 6th grade Sunday School class together with Ronnie Smith (Nancy?s brother), Jimmy Finger, Walter Dollar and others. I am so happy that we had a chance to visit with David at the last class reunion. Please know that I share your grief. Dee Dee Williams Brown"

"Linda, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. Always enjoyed conversations with David at work. It was a pleasure to work on the same floor with him when I first started with TDI as he always had words of encouragement. With my deepest sympathy, Kay Zimmermann"

Joyce (Hall) Cooper wrote on Feb 23, 2021:

"Dear Linda, Teri, Teresa and family. I was saddened to learn of David\'s passing. He was a wonderful man with a joyful spirit. Shortly after David received his kidney, my brother Tom received his; and suddenly David was there to support Tom and show him the ropes of life after transplants. What a kindness shown to someone he hardley knew. May your fond memories bring you peace and comfort, Joyce (Hall) Cooper"
