In loving memory of

Denise DuBois Maurer
July 12, 1958 - February 13, 2021

Denise DuBois Maurer, age 62 of Wimberley, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 after a long battle. She began life in Beaumont, Texas on July 12, 1958, born to Carol Black DuBois and Douglas E. DuBois, Sr.

She had an idyllic childhood in Beaumont, enjoying the company of her many aunts, uncles and cousins and big brother. The family moved to Fort Worth and then Houston, where she graduated from Westchester High School in 1976. She attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and continued her studies at the Houston Art Institute and the University of Alaska in Anchorage. Three years in Alaska were enough for this native Texan and she returned to San Antonio, Texas, where she completed her higher education with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

In San Antonio she assisted her father in his consulting business while pursuing her true passion which was oil and acrylic paintings of South Texas landscapes. Through her involvement in the San Antonio art scene, she met her soulmate, Linnaeus Orme "Chuck" Maurer. They married November 12, 1988 and made their home in San Antonio and ultimately Wimberley.

Denise's every waking thought was somehow related to art. The love of art consumed her from childhood throughout her entire life, always pursuing the next image or vision. She had libraries of images that would inspire new painting projects. Denise also loved South Texas, the people, the land and the animals. She had a menagerie in Wimberley which consisted of eight cats that she dearly loved, all feral adoptees, 50+ deer, foxes, turkeys, porcupines and many species of birds. She was religious about feeding the herd and making them part of the family, including naming all of them. This brought her many hours of joy and peace.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chuck Maurer, brother Doug DuBois, Jr. (Tricia) of Austin; sister-in-law Emily Schroeter (Jeff) of Dallas and many cousins, nieces, nephews and her eight adopted cats.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Denise's memory to Austin Pets Alive (www.austinpetsalive.org/donate/donate-tributes) or a charity of your choice.

"I remember going to extended family picnics with Denise and Doug as a kid - they were great. I will miss her so much. Denise and I went running with my dad in the late 80?s. Denise and I both lived in Alamo Heights at the time and my dad would come out from Live Oak to run with us. We would often go out for dinner together afterwards. We kept up with each other over the years we lived in different countries, and I visited her on my trips back to Texas. I miss her so and send my deepest condolences to Chuck and Doug and Tricia."
