In loving memory of

Leo Gille
August 8, 1958 - February 14, 2021

Leo Steven Gille, age 62, of Quincy, died Sunday, February 14, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

Leo was born August 8, 1958 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Mary Belle Woodson Gille. He married Judy Brawner on June 23, 1976 in Quincy, IL. She survives.

Leo was a Quincy High School graduate and worked as a machinist at Colt Industries and E.L. Smith and Sons. He operated his own lawn care service, Leo's Lawn Care, and in 1991 he and his wife Judy opened Peoples Choice Thrift Shop. Leo was always very handy and while working at their thrift shop he started fixing appliances. From a young age, Leo believed that if you were willing to put in the hard work there were always opportunities to make money.

He was a man with many interests which included fishing, boating, and casino trips. He just loved people! He would strike up conversations with anyone and was known for stopping to help those who were stuck on the side of the road. Leo enjoyed his travels with Judy and entertaining at home which included their Annual 4th of July party where they opened their home to family and friends. He was overjoyed with the birth of his granddaughter Gwyneth and looked forward to time with her. Since the pandemic, in his need to care for others, Leo started filling the food boxes around town and donating to the food pantries.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Judy include his daughter, Carrie (Nate) Nickell and his son, Danny Gille, both of Quincy; his granddaughter, Gwyneth Nickell of Quincy; a sister, Judy (Tom) Emery and brother, Jimmie (Cheryl) Gille, both of Quincy, and a brother, Allen (Glenda) Gille, of Brich Tree, MO; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, Connie (Paul) Howard, and Bonnie (Tony) Cunningham; 21 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Steven Gille, and a brother, Edward Gille,
