In loving memory of

Beverly "Bev Ann" Dirks
May 18, 1960 - February 11, 2021

Beverly "Bev Ann" Dirks, 60, of Lost Nation passed away on Thursday morning, February 11, 2021, peacefully at her home.

Bev was born on May 18, 1960 in Silvis, Illinois, to Leonard and Bonnie (Grau) Freeze. She graduated from Bennett High School and received a degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Dubuque and NICC. She married Ricky Dirks on November 1, 1980 at Peace Church in Bennett where she was a member. To that union four children were born.

While her children were young Bev was a stay at home mom. When they were all school age she started her career at Head Start, where she continued to work for 28 years. When Bev wasn't working she could be found at her grandchildren's sporting events or just spending time with them. She also enjoyed crocheting, online gaming and playing cards with friends and family, and was always busy trying to keep Ricky out of trouble. It was always guaranteed that no matter what Bev was doing, she was doing it with that infectious Bev Ann smile.

Bev is survived by her husband Ricky and five children: Heather (Roy) Goodenow, of Maquoketa; Derrick (Sue) Dirks, of Baldwin; Emily (Jackie) Dirks, of Cedar Rapids; Amber Dirks, of Lost Nation; and Theresa (Justin) Currie, of Maquoketa. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her mother Bonnie Freeze, of Bennett; and her sister Brenda (Pat) McGowan, of Lowden. Bev is preceded in death by her father Leonard in 1982.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021, at 4 P.M. at the Lost Nation American Legion, 511 Main Street, Lost Nation, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established and set up at First Trust and Savings Bank in Lost Nation.

The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family and Online condolences and notes of support may be left at www.CarsonAndSon.com.

"What a loving and happy person Bev was. It was always wonderful to see her at school events. We had our "Bennett" ties that we shared and always enjoyed our visits about Bennett. She loved her family more than anything and was not shy to demonstrate that love. My deepest sympathies to the whole family, especially Derrick and Emily. No words can ease your pain. Only time and the wonderful memories you have with your Mom will carry you through these dark days. From experience I will share that you need to talk about her often, look at old pictures, tell stories you have of her. In that way, she will be with you always."

"We are at a loss for words. This was shocking, breath taking news when we heard of her passing. She was such a great lady and we are saddened to hear about this. She will be deeply missed. Our daughter, Elizabeth just went through head start last year and really grew attached to Bev and Susie. We had several of our other kids that passed through there as well. They are just so amazing with the kids. I always knew that when I left she was always in good hands! Elizabeth looked forward to going everyday to learn something new with Bev and Susie. Her year was cut short with them because of COVID but they continued to make sure they kept in contact over the app ?Class Dojo? with a bunch of special activities for the kids or we met with Susie to pick up work. These two ladies are really something special to our family! Elizabeth was able to see Bev one last time when we ran into her at Dollar Tree a few months back and I am so thankful for that. She has grown and learned so much because of Bev and Susie. Thank you! We will miss you Bev, you have touched so many lives! Love you much! Thought and prayers go out to the family."
