Frank Kemp, age 88, of Quincy, died Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 2:45 am in Illinois Veterans' Home.
Frank was born March 24, 1932 in Mountain Grove, MO, the only child of Clarence and Mabel Pottle Kemp.
When Frank was a child, the family moved outside Lewistown, MO where he worked on the family farm. Frank graduated from Lewistown High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the United States Army, during the Korean War, where he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. After he was honorably discharged, Frank met Phyllis Drew, and they were married on October 20, 1956 in First Christian Church in Quincy, IL. They had been married for 54 years when she preceded him in death on November 16, 2010.
Frank was employed by Gardner Denver in both Quincy and Keokuk, IA. He had also been employed by the Illinois Veterans Home. Frank was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities, including a number of years as a Deacon. Frank was an excellent cook, and he enjoyed carrying on a conversation with anyone, occasionally mixing in a few facts. His family spent many hours waiting for dad on family trips while he talked to the gas station attendant about Quincy, his family, or who knows what. Frank was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and QHS Blue Devil Basketball.
