August Rollie Baumann was born December 24, 1942, the 4th of 8 children born to George and Bessie (Steele) Baumann at Lakota, Iowa. Jesus took him home February 6, 2021, after a long battle with MDS. He was 78. Known to everyone as Auggie, he was baptized and confirmed his faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota. He graduated from Lakota High School in 1960 and continued to farm and raise livestock with his dad. He served six years serving in the Army National Guard.

While roller skating in Buffalo Center he met his life-long partner and love, Cheryl Leibrand. They were married 3 years later on August 18, 1968, and settled on the home farm near Lakota. Together they raised three wonderful sons, Scott, Mike and Adam. Auggie had an eye for quality dairy cattle. He sold them to many dairies around the country and Mexico. For a time he had growers raise the heifers for him in four states. Auggie was well known in the dairy industry for the quality of his heifers and through an export company he sold many Holstein heifers to foreign countries.

He enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends, square dancing, bowling, playing cards, and watching sports. He was a current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. Every Christmas Eve, Auggie celebrated his birthday by going to church and then enjoying oyster stew and cherry pie. Auggie also enjoyed having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit so he could give them a tractor ride and show them the cows. He was a loving and caring person with a strong work ethic.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 52 years, Cheryl; sons Scott (Sonya) of Hudson, WI, Mike (Nicole) of Buffalo Center, and Adam (special friend Laura) of Overland Park, KS; 9 grandchildren, Ashley (Tom) Tacoma of New Albany, MS, Natasha (Derek) Brekke of Ely, MN, Niklaus (special friend Gabby) Baumann of Menominee, WI, Daniel (Hannah) Baumann of Baldwin, WI, William and Clara Baumann both at home in Hudson, WI, Mack Wempen of Garner, and Luke and Genna Baumann at home in Buffalo Center; and 11 great-grandchildren, John, Henry, Joseph, and Timothy Tacoma, Cora, Cossette, Catherine, Charlotte and Caroline Brekke, and Loren and Eleanor Baumann. He is also survived by sisters, Karen (Harold) Wagenaar of Sheldon, and Barbara (Steve) Kabe of Madison, WI; sisters-in-law, Roz (Dennis) Swanson of Buffalo Center, Valerie (Steve) Johanson of Forest City, Lori (Joe) Grygiel of Shakopee, MN, and Frieda Baumann of Mason City; a brother-in-law, Scott (Sue) Leibrand of Urbandale; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Mel and Opal Leibrand; 4 brothers, Ernest, Kenny (Helen), Ronald, and Harold Baumann; his sister, Ruth (Norb) Park; brother-in-law, Daryl Leibrand; and his nephews David and Dennis Baumann and Tyler Jacobs.
