Additional Information

Sally was born to Joseph Yolanda Tortoretti on July 6, 1932 in Rochester, NY on Orange Street. She later moved to 839 Smith Street to live in the same house with cousins Irene Joseph Sasso. She had two younger siblings, Marie Joseph.

As a teen, Sally wanted to go to dancing school, but was not allowed. She had to stay at home and help her mother with housework. She had the responsibility of caring for her siblings and two cousins while her parents worked.

Sally caught the eye of her future husband on the first day of school in 6th grade. She had many admirers from then on, but Howard always stood in the way. She graduated from Madison High School. Sally and Howard were married on July 25, 1953 with a peanuts and beer reception at Eagles Hall.

She worked at Eastman Kodak Navy Building where she was involved with the assembly of bomb sites for the war effort, and then at Superba Cravates for two years after she was married. Once she began having children, she became a stay-at-home mom raising four of them: Howie (married to Denise with 2 children, Brooke Kylla), Susan (married to Mike), James, and Gary (married to Wendy with one child, Parker Grace and they are expecting a son late in 2012). She became a hockey mom and traveled the country with her son Gary. She was totally dedicated to raising her children and cooked wonderful meals, especially on holidays.

Their holiday gatherings with parents were memorable, especially Christmas Eve dinners. Vacations in Florida in the winter were always fun. The greatest days of Sally's life were the births of her children.

Sally's hobbies included cooking and making Thomas Kincaid puzzles. She liked to sing, listen to Frank Sinatra and show tunes, and enjoyed watching Dancing With the Stars.

She was a good Catholic girl who did not smoke or drink, but did enjoy a glass of wine once in a great while. She always set a good example for her children and always though of others before herself.

Sally will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

"charles & alma monachino -lakewood ranch,fl. Howard, So very sorry for your loss of Sally. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. The butterfly emerges from its silken shell- Reborn, it arises, no longer bound to earth. Free at last, the butterfly glides to heights unknown before. So do our loved ones find a beautiful release as, earthbound no more, they leave our sight and joyfully rise to a garden of matchless beauty, a place of light and peace. -Evelyn Phillips"

"Ralph & Rose Tewksbury Howard and Family; Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of great loss. As we look back over time We find ourselves wondering ..... Did we remember to thank you enough For all you have done for us? For all the times you were by our sides To help and support us ..... To celebrate our successes To understand our problems And accept our defeats? Or for teaching us by your example, The value of hard work, good judgement, Courage and integrity? We wonder if we ever thanked you For the sacrifices you made. To let us have the very best? And for the simple things Like laughter, smiles and times we shared? If we have forgotten to show our Gratitude enough for all the things you did, We're thanking you now. And we are hoping you knew all along, How much you meant to us."
