Greece: Lost a long, courageous battle with cancer, May 2, 2013 at age 64. Predeceased by mother, Ellen (Buck) Sackett and father, Ira Sackett; brother-n-law, Richard Danzig. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene (Danzig) Sackett; chil dren, Stacey (Joseph) DeGraeve, Stephanie (Kevin) Johnson, and Dave Sackett; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Madison De Graeve, Carter Johnson and Ma cie DeGraeve; brother and sister, Carole (John) Pettinger, Dick (Car ol) Sackett; mother-n-law, Helen (Galbraith) Danzig; brother-n-laws, Kenneth (Kay) Danzig, Bill Danzig, Dave (Sherri) Danzig and Craig (Janet) Danzig; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Dave was born on November 23, 1948 in Rochester. During his time at Edison Tech High School, one of the memorable things about him was his athletics, notably baseball. Dave later joined the police academy and joined the Rochester Police Department in 1969. On January 15, 1990, Dave retired from the force after 20 years of ser vice. He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998. He will always and forever be remembered for his sense of humor, compassion for others, enthusiasm for life, and endless love for his family. Some of the things that he enjoyed was working around the house, such as building a gazebo, deck and pond. The most important events in his life was attending his children's activities. He is an inspiration to all.
Dave's visiting hours will be on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 at the fu neral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester, NY 14626. On Mon day, please meet the family at Our Mother of Sorrows Church for his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. The family wishes to thank all of his care givers, especially Dr. Deepak Sahasrabudhe and Jeanne Ham mond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wilmot Can cer Center, URMC 601 Elmwood Ave Box 704 Rochester, NY 14642 in Dave's memory.

We cannot tell you the fun that we had bowling in tournaments with him. We would make him laugh so hard sometimes. I know how much he loved bowling with us. "As I shared with my Facebook friends today Uncle Dave was an avid sports fan and in particular the New York teams. (Giants and Yankees) I'm also an avid (sometimes too avid) sports fan but my alligence lies with the Cowboys. We would jibe each other over the years over our teams fortunes or misfortunes. One early memory that I have in this department is when I was in little league and my big uncle came by to see a minute of my game. Now as I think about it I was 9 or 10 and he was all of 19 or 20. It was my turn at bat and he was positioned behind the backstop to get a good view. I was all excited and was going to show him my stuff. The first pitch comes in and I take a mighty swing. Strike One! No problem, I've got this. Next pitch even mightier swing and ... Strike Two. I'm still smiling and thinking this next one is outta here. The pitcher toes the rubber, winds up and hurls one right in the dirt. Strike Three! Yer out. I think I came out of my shoes with that swing. I sheepishly walk past him to the sideline and he says" You didn't have to swing at all of them. You could have probably gotten on with a walk". My baseball career didn't last long but fast forward to today and I have gotten into a much more sedate game called...Hockey! Now Uncle Dave never saw me play hockey at least not until last night. Last night I scored three goals and assisted on another. It was my first scoring night like that in ten years of hockey. In fact I hadn't scored more than two goals in the last two years. The first goal I scored I attributed to my birthday but as the goals piled up I realized that Uncle Dave was smiling down on me from Heaven and giving me a little assist himself. I like to think he's playing catch with my brother right now. I'll miss you Uncle Dave. RIP"
