Michael was born on October 25, 1958 to John & Constance Vail. He grew up in the city of Rochester on Sherman Street and then later moved to the town of Greece. During his youth, Michael enjoyed playing basketball and participating in the Chess Club. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1976. Michael served in the U.S. Navy on the submarine USS Lafayette for 8 1/2 years. He also worked at Ginna Power Plant for 26 years. Michael met his wife, Gail in the Navy recruiting office and they were married on June 14, 1980 in St. Charles Borromeo Church. They went on to have four daughters, Sarah, Rachel, Jenny & Erin.

Michael really loved sports, he coached youth basketball and was a fan of Notre Dame football team. He also enjoyed watching all types of sports on T.V. Michael liked watching the T.V. sitcom, The Big Bang Theory as he would often say the catch phrase from the show- "Bazinga." His family shared some of his favorite sayings, which were, "Are you a rock or an egg?" and "They only say- I tried my best- in the loser's locker room." Michael was described as being very dedicated to his job and hardworking, as he felt that work was work and a hobby for him. He always wanted to be close to his family as he looked forward to Friday night family dinners and loved attending all of his grandchildren's events. So for Michael, family always came first. He was known to have a good sense of humor and was outspoken. Michael taught his children perseverance and was the source of strength for many others. Michael will be deeply missed and his memory and legacy will carry on within his family and friends.

"I first met Mike last year at Ginna and had the good fortune and pleasure of working with him for most of 2015. Mike had such a unique way about him that's rarely seen: professional, dedicated, enthusiastic, hard-working, smart, witty, personable, down-to-earth, and to top it all....fun! I especially enjoyed it when Mike would get up and speak in front of the various groups at Ginna...he had a knack for keeping things interesting, humorous, and "getting it right". Mike's great laugh and sayings will always stick with me..."hear me now, believe me later"... Mike's family and his extended Ginna family have lost a real gem of a man. He was taken away far too soon. My condolences to Mike's family and his friends at Ginna."
