May 19, 2019. Agnes is predeceased by her husband Leo Kubiak. She is survived by her children, Elaine Kubiak, Michael Kubiak Teresa Kubiak; sister Frances Perez; nieces, nephews dear friends.
Agnes' life story will be shared during her visiting hours Friday, May 24th, 2-4 7-9 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Saturday, May 25th, 10:00 am at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 Fitzhugh St. N. Private internment. Those wishing may contribute to Shore Winds Nursing Home, 425 Beach Ave., Rochester, NY 14612 in Agnes' memory.
Agnes Kubiak, the oldest of 12 children, was raised on a farm in Irondequoit. She was removed from school in 9th grade in order to support her brothers and sisters. At the age of 18, when her family moved to Buffalo, she stayed in Rochester where she met her husband, Leo Kubiak, singing in the choir of St. Teresa's parish.
She worked as a maid and gardener at the rectory of Our Lady of Mercy parish while raising her children. At the age of 55 she took her high school equivalency exam and received her LPN from Monroe Community College. For 19 years she pursued her nursing career at Genesee Hospital caring for the terminally ill, many of whom were dying of AIDS. In her work and throughout her life she tended to the dying, holding them in the light in their final moments.
She was a brilliant woman, interested in all of nature's glories, with a mind that was a mesh of scientist and engineer. She always came up with a better way to do everything and she never stopped educating herself.
At the age of 74 she had a big stroke while preparing to go in for the night shift at Genesee. She returned home to make a strong recovery but suffered from seizures and TIA's - each of which sent her into further decline. She spent her final four years being cared for by the loving staff of the Shorewinds Nursing Home. Their generosity of heart will never be forgotten.
