"Dear Wheater Family,
I have been privileged to know Tom through youth football. He had a unique way of keeping things in perspective and officiating to the level of play. He always took the time to explain things to the young player and never forgot to acknowledge the cheer leaders. Whenever Tom walked out onto the field he would always greet me with a big hello and over the years it evolved into an embrace much like a relative that you look forward to seeing but never often enough. His energy was infectious and he made the game he officiated better and certainly the world a better place.
I am truly saddened and will miss Tom. Please except my deepest sympathy and hopefully the cherished memories will help to heal the loss you and many of us in the surrounding communities are feeling. Tom touched many , many lives with dignity , class and a good natured spirit.

"I'm so very sad to hear of your dad's passing. I know he was a special guy who gave so much to his family. I remember him as an active Odyssey parent, part of the sports, music, and theatre programs. My heart goes out to the entire family. May you find comfort in the fond memories you all share. He was a remarkable man.I had the pleasure to get to know Tom over the last 10 years or so and work directly with him officiating football games. With Tom it was always about the kids. "My sincerest condolences to Tom's entire family. I worked with Tom back when we were just 16 years old. We had a lot of fun, mostly because Tom made work seem like fun - that is just the way he was. Years later I would run into him at soccer, where our girls played and he was very involved in. I had the pleasure of running into him a few other times throughout the years and most recently at lacrosse games where he would sometimes referee my grandson's games, in only a way that he could - with a lot of energy and animation! What a great guy! Whenever I saw Tom he always had a big welcoming smile and such a positive outlook on everything - something I will miss and never forget. "
