In loving memory of

Jeffrey James Larson
January 3, 1952 - November 26, 2020

Jeffrey James Larson, 68, born on January 3, 1952, was fatally injured when he was struck by a car last Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020, as he walked through an intersection.

Jeff was born in Lincoln, NE, to James R. and Dorothy L. (Lutz) Larson. He contracted polio as a child, and its effects, though not immediately apparent, were with him for life. His family moved to Des Moines in 1955. Jeff grew up loving the rock bands of the 60's and loved both purchasing new records and
attending concerts. He was a true pacifist, fervently opposed to violence of any sort. With a mind like a steel trap, he remembered dates, locations, and countless details about events both in his personal life and worldwide. He avidly followed politics, world events, and sports. Extremely kind and caring, he focused intently on those he spoke with, truly interested in learning about them. He loved family gatherings and loved to joke and laugh. He was intelligent, gentle, loving, and loyal.

Jeff is survived by sister Kristen (Ken) Tharp, niece Lindsey (Caleb) Harrelson and their children Cora, Finn, and Xavi, and nephew Andrew Tharp.

He is predeceased by his parents and his nephew Christopher Tharp.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Des Moines Police Department for their diligence and kindness. We thank those who attended to Jeff after the accident, and those who expressed concern about him. We also extend our thanks and love to Jeff's friends and all who loved him for filling his life with good times and happy memories.

A private service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church. Jeff did a lot of walking, and a trail bench will be purchased in his memory. Those who are interested may go to https://www.friendsofdmparks.org/memorial-bench and make a donation honoring Jeffrey Larson.
