In loving memory of

Gary Till
March 2, 1950 - January 18, 2021

Gary Till, 70, of Andrew, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, January 18, 2021, at his home.

Cremation rights have been accorded. Friends and family will be gathering to share some of our favorite memories and stories to honor the life of Gary Till on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1102 East Platt Street, Maquoketa, Iowa. We are sensitive to concerns about Covid and attending indoor gatherings at this time. Therefore, we are hoping to have a second memorial service outdoors this summer, so that anyone not comfortable attending an indoor service at this time will have the opportunity to share their memories of Gary. In planning for the gathering we hope to have this summer, we would like to enlist your help in compiling photos of Gary that might be included in a slideshow and/or book. If you attend the memorial service at FOE on Tuesday, we welcome you to bring your favorite photos of Gary that can be incorporated in the photo project. Alternatively, please send any photos you may have that could be included to Tiffany Cunningham at either tifftill@hotmail.com or 701 S. Olive Street, Unit 1813, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. Tiffany will scan all photos submitted by mail and will return the originals to you. We hope to see you to remember and honor Gary together either this Tuesday at the FOE, and/or later this summer at a date and place TBD.

Gary was born on March 2, 1950 in Bellevue, Iowa, to Elmer John and Marjorie Mae (Sommers) Till. He attended country school in early years in Jackson County, and he was a graduate of Andrew Community School. Gary was raised on a farm in rural Bellevue but has been a resident of Andrew for approximately 20 years.

Gary worked at International Paper in Clinton for 20+ years, Conlon Construction in Dubuque for a short time, and as the head bartender at the Dubuque Golf & County Club for approximately 20 years.

Gary enjoyed playing golf, socializing with his friends, and working on projects around the house. He loved watching Iowa Hawkeye games, especially basketball. His favorite TV show was The Walking Dead, and he enjoyed watching Jeopardy with his son-in-law, Tom. He enjoyed collecting coins and unique currency, which was a hobby that he also shared with his daughter, Tiffany. Gary loved animals, and he always looked forward to spending time with his granddog, Wrigley. He also looked forward to spending time with family and friends at his annual "Oyster Fest."

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Tiffany (Tom) Cunningham of West Palm Beach, Florida, Clint Till of Clinton, Iowa, Michelle (Jeremy) Budde of Preston, Iowa, and Chad Till; brothers, Denny (Kathy) Till of Andrew, Iowa, and Marty Till (Daisy Vandever) of Bellevue, Iowa; sisters, Janet Keil (Paul Sieverding) of Bellevue, Iowa, Patricia Bousselot of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kristi (Dennis) Flenker of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Amy (Kevin) Daly of Pembroke, Massachusetts; and brother-in-law, Ken Formanek of Des Moines, Iowa. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard "Dick" Till, and a sister Brenda Formanek.

The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family. Please feel free to call or stop at the funeral home with notes of support or leave words of comfort on the funeral home website at www.CarsonAndSon.com.

"I worked with G. Till at the DGCC; I was a fresh 16 year old & kinda ?green? I had to learn that his bark was worse than his bite!! After I learned to bark back we became decent friends!! He appreciated hard work because he was a hard worker!! He taught me a lot of things! He was a excellent bartender unless he had to share his bar!! Tillster always had a joke or 7 & a laugh that was contagious!! After working with Gary for 5-6 years I will forever be grateful for our friendship & many many laughs & great times. I never would go to that ?oyster event? Even during college we would reconnect off & on! Just pick up like we never missed a beat! Over the years we played a few rounds of golf but definitely spend more time playing pool. He could never understand why I didn?t care if we lost!! He liked to win; We would gather in his garage to BS & drink a few vodka lemonades on them hot summer days! Old Style Light was his 1st choice!! He never would work a Sunday & rightfully so!! Gary had a big heart & some did some grumbling some but that usually didn?t last long!! I invited him to my wedding thinking that he would maybe ?sent a card? nope he showed up & I was floored!! Our smiles were absolutely priceless as my eyes lit up to see him & Lori!! That was a wonderful surprise definitely a highlight!! I know I have pictures somewhere!! G. Till was a wonderful person & another good one gone to soon!! Your entire family is in my thoughts & prayers for sure! After hearing that he didn?t play golf all summer he must of been miserable! I hope to make the celebration in the summer; so please keep me posted on a date! With my deepest sympathy! Xoxo Katie Freiburger-Hayes Katofreiburger@hotmail.com "

"My family and I were sad to hear the news of Gary?s passing. We joined DG&CC in 2002 and Gary was our favorite person to spend time with at the club. We had countless conversations over the years on a variety of topics and shared an appreciation for his fish tank, which he seemed to be tweaking a n an ongoing basis. When our son Jack was younger, the three of us would sit at the bar for one drink before dinner and our son would order a chocolate milk. Gary would always ask Jack ?The Usual?? Gary will be missed and our sympathy goes out to the entire family Eric, Linda and Jack Lucy "
