Donald Rossiter
February 1, 1942 - January 15, 2021

Donald Ray Rossiter, age 78, of La Prairie, IL, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at 7:00 am in Blessing Hospital.

Donald was born February 1, 1942 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Charles Ray and Sarah Lillian Hammond Rossiter. He married Jennifer Jones on March 7, 1963 in Granite City, IL. She survives.

Donald was a 1960 graduate of Central High School in Camp Point, and he attended John Wood Community College. Donald had a 21 year career serving as an engineman in the United States Navy. After he was honorably retired from the Navy with the rank of E7 Chief Petty Officer, he was employed by Colt Industry (Quincy Compressor Division) as a laboratory technician. Donald then spent several years at Jack's Small Engine Repair in Macomb, IL, before settling at the La Prairie Post Office, where he would become assistant Post Master. Donald was a trustee of the Village of La Prairie board.

In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, survivors include: four children: Michael Rossiter of La Prairie, IL; Steven (Cynthia) Rossiter of Quincy, IL; Frances (Ed) Stevens of La Prairie, IL; and Patrick (Pam) Rossiter of Golden, IL; seven grandchildren: Jeramya and Machella Rossiter, Jessica Rossiter, Holly (Jon) Sedore, Alexander (Suzanne) Rossiter, Airic Rossiter, and Austin (Deanna) Rossiter; great-grandson, Tatum Rossiter; eight siblings: Jim (Debbie) West of Mendon, IL; Ralph "Buster" Jordan of Fowler, IL; Brenda (Lloyd) Leenerts of Golden, IL; Charles (Denise) Rossiter, Jr. of Quincy; Jerry (Barb) Long of Paloma, IL; Terry Long of Canton, IL; Walter (Deb) Rossiter of Clayton, IL; and Marilyn Page of Herrin, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, George Rolland Stevens; a sister, Margaret "Punky" Engelbrecht; and his step-mother, Inez Rossiter.

Services: 10:00 am Friday, January 22, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Spain officiating. Please bring a mask if you plan on attending the services.

Burial: Paloma Cemetery, Paloma, Illinois with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail.

Visitation: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday January 21, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Please bring a mask if you plan on attending the visitation.
