Frank Birzer
August 2, 1939 - January 15, 2021

Frank A. Birzer, 81, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Trinity Regional Medical Center.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will take place at 3:00 PM at Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.


Frank is survived by his children, Andrew (Samantha) Birzer of Fort Dodge and Jennifer (James) Sarringar of Sibley; grandchildren, Stephanie Birzer, Theresa Graf and Colin Birzer and Garrett, Henry, Jack and Max Sarringar; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Camden Graf; and siblings, Don Birzer of Victoria, KS, and Debbie Setzkorn of Dodge City, KS.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Judy Birzer; daughter, Stacy Birzer; parents, Frank and Lydia (Heinitz) Birzer; and siblings, Kenneth Heinitz and Virginia Bierce.


Frank Andrew Birzer was born August 2, 1939 at the farm in Garden City, KS. He was raised and educated in Dodge City; graduating from Dodge City High School in 1959. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On June 8, 1968 he was united in marriage to Judy Fleming. The couple established their home in Des Moines. In 1974 they moved to East Grand Forks, MN before settling in Fort Dodge in 1978. Frank worked for Inter Systems for 30 plus years. He then established Grain Elevator Service which he owned and operated for 14 years until retiring in 2014. Frank was a member of Holy Trinity Church and a past member of the Elks in Fort Dodge and Dodge City. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating with his family and friends. More recently his favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren participate in various sports and activities.


Memorials may be left to family discretion.

"Grandpa I'll always remember Gizzards for Christmas, holiday naps, sneaking money for helping out around the house, or the Easter bunny leaving quarters in the eggs. I'll remember car rides to visit Jeni and the boys or Theresa's soccer games. I'll remember you were always there to support and cheer us kids on. I love you and you are missed. "
