Charles William Dreibelbis was born February 18, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Gladys Dreibelbis. He passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-two.
Charles received his education and graduated from North High School in Des Moines. He continued his education in veterinary school at Iowa State University, graduating in 1964. Charles was united in marriage with Linda Wingrove November 29, 1959, at Dow City, Iowa. The couple settled in Bancroft, Orange City, Red Oak, and Manilla, Iowa, before moving to Denison in 1974 where Charles set up his own veterinary practice. In 1987, he became a federal meat inspector. After retiring, he was employed part-time for several years at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.
Active in many professional organizations, Charles was a strong supporter of the Republican party and was a member of the American, Iowa and Iowa State Veterinary Associations. He was also committed to community service as he was a member of the Denison School Board, Denison Little League Board, volunteered as a coach for Little League, Senior League and flag football for many years. He also served on the Loess Hills Board for 12-15 years and was a guide at the Lewis & Clark Museum in Sioux City. Charles was very sincere about his faith and served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church and then at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Denison.
In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed wood carving, woodworking, bird watching, and hunting for pheasant, duck, geese, quail, fox and deer. He loved training his hunting dogs. Charles enjoyed watching sports on television, puttering around the yard and traveling – visiting the states, including Alaska, as well as Mexico. He found great pleasure in attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Linda; two daughters, Anita and her husband, Jeff, and Jennifer and her husband, Tim; three sons, Richard and his wife, Rose, Steve and his wife, Lynda, and Craig and his wife, Robbin; twenty-three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
