"Lit a candle in memory of Lorraine E. Aschinger"
Lorraine Emma Aschinger was born November 4, 1929, in Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Hilda Gregosches Schneller. She passed away Monday, September 2, 2019, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine.
Lorraine was baptized in Christ and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was united in marriage September 14, 1948, to John Fineran and the couple settled in Deloit and then moved to Denison in the early 1950's, the family moved to a farm outside of Deloit in 1963.
She was employed at World Wide Meats in Denison in the 1970's for two years. Because of her love for cooking, she purchased the Community Caf and operated it until selling it in the late 1980's. She also was employed at Cronk’s Caf for a time. On February 14, 1986, Lorraine was united in marriage with Marlin Aschinger and the couple made their home in Deloit. She became a resident of Eventide and then of Denison Care Center in 2015.
Attending dances and dancing with her husband to polkas and waltzes provided many hours of pleasure for her as did listening to Lawrence Welk. Traveling was also enjoyable for her especially going to Alaska, Niagra Falls, Martha’s Vineyard and traveling with John to Seattle by train. Her son, Dennis, took her to Florida which was a special time for her. Marlin and Lorraine also enjoyed going to flea markets. She loved playing bingo, hunting mushrooms, making cloth rugs, crocheting and quilting. Decorating wedding cakes was also one of Lorraine’s talents including one that served 600 people. She was a big fan of the Kansas City Royals.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Fineran and Marlin Aschinger; daughter-in-law, Shirley Fineran; son-in-law, Les Campbell; one sister, Delores Dohse and her husband, Reed; and one brother, Henry Schneller. She is survived by: two sons, Dennis Fineran of Denison and Steve Fineran of Deloit; one daughter, Deanna Campbell of Deloit; four stepchildren, Brenda (Dale) Schniker of Woodland Park, Colorado, Beverly (Micol) Maughan of Forest Grove, Oregon, John (Sharon) Aschinger of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Jerome Aschinger of Westside, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Tracie (Karen), Melissa (Angie) and Pat Fineran and Heather Curnyn all of Denison, Iowa, Wendie (Nick) Cadwell of Earling, Iowa, Chris Fineran of Kansas City, Missouri, Paige Eastin (Ben Humphrey)and Connor Fineran of Des Moines; ten great-grandchildren, Travis (Heather), Michaela, Logan, Mersadees, Samantha, Landon, Elijah, Hayden, Lane and Ella; seventeen step-grandchildren: Russell (Robyn) Maughan of Sherwood, Oregon, Natasha (Eric) Gwatney of Largo, Florida, Danielle (Jesse), Ashley Schnitker of Denver, Colorado, Jacob (Chelsea) Schnitker of Phoenix, Arizona and Carly, MaKenna and Shayne Aschinger of Carroll, Iowa, Mindy (Jacob) Griffin, Ashley (Trent) Kerr and Brenda Doty all of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Victory of Westside, Iowa, Stephanie of Omaha, Nebraska, Leonard of Cactus, Texas, Cathy of Westside, Iowa, Trent of Vail, Iowa, and Tammy of Indiana; one sister, Emmy Lou (Kay) McComb of Vail, Iowa; two brothers, Ronald (Dorothy) Schneller of Clinton, Iowa and Robert (Myrna) Schneller of Ft. Myers, Florida; one sister-in-law, Patricia Schneller of Ft. Myers, Florida; and very special friend, Jackie; other relatives and friends.
