In loving memory of

Irwin Walter Denker
March 19, 1925 - December 25, 2020

Irwin Walter Denker was born on March 19, 1925, to Paul O. and Frieda F. (Finnern) Denker in Denison, Iowa. Irwin was baptized into Christ on the day of his birth and then later confirmed all at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1945. Irwin enlisted into the United States Army in April of 1946. Irwin married Mary Lou Quandt on January 20, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church and they were blessed with two daughters. The couple farmed in East Boyer Township, Denison for over 40 years.

Irwin was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. He served as East Boyer Trustee for several years. He seemed to be the happiest when he was wood working, it was his “retirement hobby”. He also enjoyed walking and team league bowling for over 40 years. Irwin and Mary Lou spent a lot of time square dancing together. Irwin especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Irwin died on December 25, 2020, at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa at the age of 95 years, nine months and six days.

Irwin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul F. Denker; parents-in-law, Elmer and Bernice (Doakes) Quandt; brother-in-law, Donald E. Quandt; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Jean (Quandt) Johannsen. He is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Mary Lou Denker; two daughters, Cynthia Lee (Jeffrey) Eby and Sandra Kay (Jerry) Urfer; two grandchildren, Matthew Eby and Jennifer (Larry) Kubitz; great-granddaughter, Faith Carolynn Eby; sister-in-law, Elma Pullis; nieces and nephews, Jenelle (Brian) Higginbottom, Jeff (Lori) Johannsen, Joel (Melissa) Johannsen, Rick (Tanya) Quandt, Karol (Chris) Davis; and many other relatives and friends.

"Irv & Mary Lou were great friends to my parents Bill & Ruth Dobler and bright spots in the early days of ReaLife. Irv's wood shop was a source of intrigue to those who got to enter.
