Bernette Scherbring
April 13, 1919 - January 9, 2021

Bernette (Kalmes) Scherbring, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at her residence in Lake Winona Manor. Bernette was born April 13, 1919 to Joseph and Mary (Ritt) Kalmes, the oldest of three children. Bernette's love of music started at an early age. She began playing piano and organ in church as a teenager and played viola in the Winona Orchestra. After graduating from Winona High School, she began working as a bookkeeper for her father at Kalmes Implement. On August 11, 1942 she married Gilbert Scherbring. In 1972 Gilbert took ownership of Kalmes Implement from Bernette's father. Bernette continued her musical path through teaching numerous children piano lessons and playing organ at St. Anthony Catholic Church for 55 years. She was also an avid card player with a love for playing Bridge. Bernette was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald, a sister Florence and her husband Gilbert. Bernette will be remembered and missed by her sons, Bernie (Bonnie) Scherbring, Bob (Deb) Scherbring and Dave Scherbring; grandchildren, Jeff (Mary) Scherbring, Scott (Pam) Scherbring, Jay (Jackie) Scherbring, Amy (Jake) McKown, Gari (Steve) Pisca, Erin (John) Scholla and AJ (Sarah) Scherbring; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles with the Reverend Will Thompson of St. Anthony Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow services in St. Mary's Cemetery at Oak Ridge. A visitation will be from 10 am until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
