Bernadine Grove, 86, of Council Bluffs and former Macedonia resident passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Country House Residence in Council Bluffs. Private family funeral will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson with Rev. Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. There will be an open visitation (the family will not be present) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the funeral home. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson is caring for Bernadine and her family.

Bernadine Avis (Childs) Grove, 86, of Macedonia, IA, passed away December 30, 2020 at the Country House Residence in Council Bluffs.
Bernadine was born on July 13, 1934 in Council Bluffs, one of four children of Hull and Avis (Harsch) Childs. She graduated from high school in Underwood, Iowa.
Bernadine and Dean Howard Grove were united in marriage on June 25, 1954 at the 5th Avenue United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. In 1956 they moved to a farm west of Macedonia, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, LuAnn and Linda.
Bernadine was a homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of the Friday Federated club, OTO Club, and UMC Women. Among her enjoyments were playing cards, crocheting, watching the Game Show Network, eating sweet corn, and going to Vegas to play the slot machines. Bernadine faithfully kept a journal and wrote in it every day (starting back when she was in middle school) until ending just a few years ago. She loved her girls and enjoyed being a grandma and great grandma.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Dean on July 4, 2002; sisters, Lorraine Mann and Eloise Ryan; sister-in-law Donna Childs; and grandson Landon Bentley.
Bernadine is survived by her daughters, LuAnn Smith and husband Bill of Carson, and Linda Olson and husband William of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Jeff (Christine) Bentley of Ames, IA, John Bentley of Macedonia, and Tyler Olson, Eric Olson and Alex Olson, all of Leawood; great grandchildren, Ethan Bentley, Dean Bentley, John Bentley, Sophia Bentley, and Aricin Olson; brother Carrol Childs of Council Bluffs; brother-in-law Bernie Mann of Avoca, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
