Lou Anne Eaton Hirschi

Lou Anne Eaton Hirschi passed away December 31, 2020 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah. She was born September 17, 1949 to Claudest (Art) Arman and Melba Wilson Eaton. Her marriage to Stephen T. Hirschi on October 13, 1995 was solemnized in the Vernal Temple on March 14, 1998.

Annie's (as she was known to her family) first love and priority was her family. All of her siblings, acquired kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews had a very warm spot for their Annie. Games of "Tooty-Ta," young children's antics, and family practical jokes evoked her infectious laughter. A young toddler crying for his "mama" when Annie rounded a corner out of his sight exemplifies the affection bestowed on their Annie. She could be "particular" about gymnastics near valued furniture but she could also call "dogpile" on grandchildren lying on the floor. She loved to listen to and tell family stories such as how her dad discovered the unauthorized use of the family car because her sister put too much gas in the tank or the fishing trips with her father where they shared a can of Vienna sausages, soda crackers and Shasta soda cooled in the creek. She was always supportive when her family members were in need. She found out, a little too late, that she married "an outside dog" of a husband and took that in stride. In Mark Twain's "Diary of Adam," Eve's epitaph was "Where she was, there was Eden." Clearly, that could be said of Annie.

Lou Anne's second love (exceeded only by her love for her family) was her service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held several leadership positions at the ward and stake level but her favorite positions involved teaching youth and children. She lead singing in the children's primary. Hours were spent preparing material to make music fun for the "kids." She camped with the young women, taught 3-year-olds, and served in adult leadership positions. Her patient, non-judgmental service helped more than one person.

Her 36-year career at the U.S. Forest Service started when she was hired as a clerk at the age of 17 and ended when she retired as an Information Technician in 2005, only taking one year off to attend LDS Business College. She began at Ashley National Forest in Vernal, moved to Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Provo, and then to Fishlake National Forest in Richfield. She then returned to Ashley National Forest where she retired. She learned to manage computers and their information mostly from on the job training. Thoroughness, good work ethic, and attention to detail appeared often in her work evaluations. These characteristics served her well as she advanced her career. Excellent customer service skills combined with superb technical skills and hard work earned Lou Anne the respect of her supervisors and colleagues.

Lou Anne is survived by her husband, Steve; brothers, Valoy Eaton and Brent (Lydia) Eaton; sister, Maureen Johnson; bonus children Geoff Hirschi, Christopher (Julie) Hirschi, and Maren Hirschi; 11 grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents Art and Melba Eaton, father- and mother-in-law Tren and Gracia Hirschi, sister-in-law Ellie Eaton, brother-in-law Dale Johnson, and son Sean Hirschi.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Glines 7th Ward LDS Chapel (1270 W 1500 S, Vernal, Utah). Due to limited seating service is for close friends and family.
