Carl Spencer Johnson
May 17, 1923 - December 7, 1941

Carl Spencer Johnson, age 18, killed in action in the performance of his duty on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Born in Columbus, New Mexico, on May 17, 1923, he was the son of Zeno M. and Margaret Johnson. He spent most of his boyhood in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a graduate of Monroe Grammar school and a student at North Phoenix high school. He enlisted in the Navy on December 8, 1939 at age 16. He obtained the rank of seaman first-class by September 1940 six months after completing Navy recruit training in February 1940. He was survived at the time by his parents; three sisters, Anita Beebe, Della Heubner, Katherine Dahl and one brother Zeno M. Johnson, Jr.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was remembered as a loving son and brother who enjoyed being with his family including his niece and four nephews.

The graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on January 15, 2021 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W. VanBuren Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009.

"My Father grew up with Carl they lived across the alley from each other, My dad is 97 the same age of Carl, he saw this on Christmas Eve on TV and was brought to tears, I think that an angle made my day watch at that time ! He said Carl was his best friend and was such a kind person. When he joined the navy he wanted my dad to also but his mother would not sign for him ! at 16 but my dad did join after. He received a card Dated Dec 5, 1941 and on Dec 7, 1941 after he was killed he got it . He would like to contact some of the family, His name is Ronnie Luplow, but he lives with us ! I wish you peace to his family . He will try to attend the service "
