"Thoughts and prayers to The Doro family. Enjoyed many great times serving on the board of Wisconsin Chapter MAFCA with him and our Model A's. He was a great guy!! Eric Haban"
Carl John Doro, 85, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, departed Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Scottsdale, AZ. Born and raised in Milwaukee, son of Raymond and Marie (Zylka) Doro, brother of Judy (Sexton), all who preceded him. Carl was a modest and dedicated family man who quietly gave back to his beloved Milwaukee community. A 1979 graduate of MATC in Architectural Technology, he worked for the City of Milwaukee for 25 years as a Neighborhood Rehabilitation Specialist where he applied his creative talent and architectural skills to redesign HUD's foreclosed homes, manage their restoration and sale to the community at cost and with low-interest loans he negotiated with local banks. He loved his work and was happy it benefited communities in the city he loved so much.
He quietly accepted awards for his work and his hobbies. He was honored by Milwaukee Public Schools for his work with students at Milwaukee Trade and Technical School (now Bradley Tech High School); his 1931 Ford Model "A" won first place as "Vets' Choice" at the Milwaukee VA Hospital and he received a commendation from Milwaukee's mayor at his retirement. He was passionate about his restoration of old cars and old houses, loved jazz (his toe was always tapping) and he loved all dogs. A classic car enthusiast, he could name the make, model and year of almost any older vehicle. He thoroughly enjoyed his years of membership in the Wisconsin Chapter of the Model "A" Ford Club of America and served as their webmaster for several years. He loved his "old neighborhood," once working class, now trendy, famous "Brady Street" with its century-old homes and "mom and pop" stores. Carl grew up in the neighborhood, and when he married Lucille, they stayed on Milwaukee's East Side where they started their family in a century-old home on Bartlett Avenue, where all 5 children lived until they moved to western Milwaukee adjacent to Wauwatosa. He was a carpenter and tool "nut," his tool collection dates back to the 1920s. He could build just about anything, including kitchen cabinets he built in his basement workshop and hung on plaster walls adapting to the curved coved ceiling in their circa 1942 home.
Carl leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Lucille (Byers) whom he privately referred to as "the BR" (the beautiful redhead), 5 children, Peggy Moran (Thomas Maglio) and Patricia Hashimoto (Michael) of Fountain Hills, Arizona; Barbara Shields (Patrick, deceased) of Smyrna, Tennessee; Christine (Ken McGee) of Franklin, Wisconsin, and John of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, along with 7 grandchildren, Kadi Torres (Jaime), Kelli Boyd (Dalton) and Spencer Shields, all of the greater Nashville, Tennessee area, and Dominic, Christina "Bella," Sophia and Olivia of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and 2 great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Miranda of Tennessee. Carl leaves behind other relatives and very dear friends, and a list of assorted, unfinished projects his children will now finish in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the American Lung Association https://www.lung.org/get-involved/ways-to-give
A visitation will take place at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:00pm. Liturgy of the Word Celebration to follow at 2:00pm. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be live-streamed and subsequently videotaped on YouTube, search 'Carl Doro.'

"I'm so saddened to hear of Carl's passing. We met Carl and Lu through the Model A Ford Club. Such a great guy! Our deepest sympathies to the family of Carl. Mike & Sue Quam"
"I worked with Carl at the City in the 1980s and 90s. I remember him fondly. He was a very nice guy and was very easy to get along with. He also had a way of defusing sometimes conflictual situations with clients and contractors. He knew how to soft pedal things when appropriate. I feel sad. Carl, I miss you even though I haven't seen you for years. I hope there is a Heaven and you are in it! I am glad that I got to know you."
