In loving memory of

Barbara J Mundt
February 6, 1931 - December 27, 2020

Barbara J. (Waggoner) Mundt, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 27, 2020, in Marion. Barbara was born on February 6, 1931, in Fort Wayne, to the late Lester H. and Ethyl M. (Carrington) Waggoner. She graduated from Southside High School in Fort Wayne, class of 1949. After graduating, Barbara was a secretary for two attorneys, William Douglas and Arthur Smith (a patent attorney). Barbara retired from Bank One, in Marion, in 1990, as a loan officer, after working there for almost 28 years.

Barbara married the love of her life, Howard L. Mundt, on July 1, 1950, at Grace Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne with Rev. Fred Holtmeyer officiating. Howard survives. They just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together this year, and they were both looking forward to turning 90 years old together next year. The two of them met in kindergarten, in 1936, at John S. Irwin School, in Fort Wayne. In 1937, in the first grade, there was a gift exchange where Howard had given Barbara a necklace with a locket on it. This was such a special gift to her, she held on to it all of these years. The necklace had to be replaced, but she still had the locket and had asked her family that when she passed away for them to bury her with it, and they are respecting her wishes.

Barbara was a generous, kind, loving, and caring woman. She had a passion for reading. This year was probably her slowest year ever, with still managing to read 82 books. She loved traveling, fishing, and spending time with her family. Barbara enjoyed volunteering her time. She volunteered at the Marion General Hospital Gift Shop, Meals on Wheels, she was a den mother for cub scouts and loved helping with the stamp business. Barbara was a member of the Marion General Hospital Auxillary Board, the LaSertome Club, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She attended Sims Wesleyan Church and Mt. Olive UMC.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Howard L. Mundt, Marion; children, Michael (Karen) Mundt, Sulphur, LA; Pamela (John) Finney, La Fontaine; and Cynthia (Thomas) Hughes, La Fontaine; grandchildren, Angela Benner, Brian (Jennifer) Finney, Ian (Jen Arnold) Mundt, and Adam (Hannah) Follin; great-grandchildren, Emily Benner, Ariel Benner, Lexie Finney, Courtney Finney, Gary Follin, and Gregor Mundt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester H. and Ethyl M. (Carrington) Waggoner; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
