She graduated valedictorian of her class at Maquoketa High School in 1941, and went on to Frances Shimer College in Mount Carroll, Illinois, where she again graduated with honors. In the Fall of 2017 she was relocated to Grundy Care Center, due to declining health. She remained there until her death.

During her married life Genny was active in the community and loved to entertain throughout the year, especially during the Christmas season, her most favorite time of year. She was known to her many friends as "the hostess with the mostest," always welcoming anyone into her home. She and Dale enjoyed years of extensive travel, and she loved working on art projects, along with playing the piano and organ.

"I feel as though a part of my childhood left with Gen. Her parents, Uncle Doc and Aunt Flo to me, were very close friends with my parents, Rachel and H.D. Keeley. I recall so many happy times at the Frank home, our home and later at Gen and Dale's - and also picnics and breakfasts at the Caves. I used to spend overnights in the Frank home where Gen and Phyliss were so kind to me, and so much fun. Sledding on Austin Avenue was a must. They all came to our home nearly every Christmas morning. I remember Phil and Nancy as little children and Barbie as an infant. Nancy, I recall one incident with you. Uncle Doc was called out for a house call during a large party. When he returned he demanded to know who had consumed most of his drink. It wasn't until you started falling down that the culprit was determined! Phil, thank you so much for including all of the wonderful photos of your mother and her family. I will save some of them. I still have a toy loom that they gave me as a child. And I still make Aunt Flo's dried corn. My daughter, Laura, (now deceased) and Pat Smith were good friends -- and so excited when they learned of their common history. All of you have my sincerest sympathy and I know that you also have a treasure trove of wonderful memories with all of your family. Rachel Keeley Porter - Coralville, IA"
