In loving memory of

Mildred "Millie" Virginia Komer
May 11, 1924 - November 25, 2020

Our beautiful mother, Mildred Virginia Komer completed her journey and went home to the Lord on November 25, 2020.

Mildred was born to George and Sophia Miotke on May 11, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. Mildred was the oldest of four girls. She graduated from high school in only three years and continued her education in Business school. She worked for the Armed Services during World War II. In 1942 she married Edward Komer, and they built a life together in Dearborn, Michigan, resulting in six adored children.

As her family grew, she maintained a very hectic schedule, always involved in their activities both in and out of school. She was always positive and encouraged the children to play instruments, take dance classes, or play sports. She loved her Catholic faith and was active in church stewardship. She and her husband, Ed, loved to dance and play cards too. She was very social and loved her friends as well. Her favorite hobby as the children grew was sewing, making many of her clothes, a bridesmaid gown, children's clothes, even suits for Ed. She was an avid reader, and always had a novel, a business or health book at her bedside. She also enjoyed the family's camping outings in the pop-up trailer exploring the great outdoors with all her children.

Millie and Ed initially retired to Florida, but in 1984, they moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, gradually convincing all their children to follow them out to "paradise". She became very active at St. Patrick's Catholic Community Church on Shea Boulevard, where she joined the Women's Circle and even sewed new altar cloths for the parish.

In 1995, they moved to Peoria, Arizona, after her two sisters arrived there. She became active at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. She loved playing cards and going to the Casinos in the area. Her friends loved, "Millie", even when she beat them at cards.

In 2018, Mildred moved back to Scottsdale to Andara, an independent living community, where she was able to remain active, social and close to nearby family.

Mildred is survived by her daughter Judith (Robert) Schmidt of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter Joyce Komer of Show Low, AZ, son John Komer of Scottsdale, AZ, son Jeffrey (Jennifer) Komer of Cave Creek, AZ, and her niece Mary (Mark) Vandenheede Rozycki. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Jeff (Tammy) Schmidt, Susan (James) Johnson, Brad (Julie)Komer, Michael (Rebecca) Komer-Bright, Sarah Komer, Alex (Socorro) Shepherd, Angela (Andrew) Dove, Andrew (Kim) Shepherd, Cameron Komer, Kali Komer (fiancé Jose Migueles), and Keely Komer. Great-grandchildren: Sage and Emmylou Johnson, Annabelle and Francesca Komer-Bright, Edwin and Gwen Dove, Alex Jr., Isabella, and Gabriella Shepherd, Sadie and Regan Shepherd.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Dorothy Flemming, Laurie Vandenheede, and Beverly Shearer, two sons Gerald Komer, and James Komer, as well as her husband Edward Komer.

Services are being postponed and a celebration of life is planned for May 10, 2021, at St. Patrick's Catholic Community Church. Donations may be made in Mildred's name to Hospice of the Valley.
