Katherine Prue was born in Cameron, Tx on August 7th, 1932. She was the owner and operator of Katherine's Drapery Shop for 25 years. Her family was always proud of her for learning the skills she needed to make her business successful. When she first began her business, she worked for 7 different decorators, but she stayed so busy working long hours 6 days a week, that she had to let all but one, Kay Harris, go. Kay and Katherine became best of friends and depended on each other for many years. Due to Katherine's hard work, she solely supported herself and was able to pay for her home, car, expenses, and all the things she needed and wanted. Besides her family, Katherine's love was to sew. She sewed and made her children's clothes as they grew up, and she made everything from padded headboards, table cloths, comforters, and cornice boards for many homes in Austin to draperies for the Texas Capitol, Governor's mansion, and South Austin Hospital. She was once asked to share the story of her life's accomplishments to be published in the Austin Public Library to encourage other women to believe in themselves.
Katherine was saved and baptized many years ago when her children were young. Many years later, she felt the need to rededicate her life to God once more. Katherine always took the time to play with her children and listen to them when they were teenagers. Even their friends would say "I wish I had a mother like yours." When the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, she took that same time with them. Telling them stories, laughing and telling jokes, and always dancing. Whether it was the twist, mashed potato, making up her own dance moves, or just trying to dance how the grandchildren were doing it, she loved the music and loved every minute with her family. Now it's her time to go home and dance in the sky with Jesus. Memories of her will always be with us and although she will be missed by so many, we will rejoice with the angels. As she would always say "We will all be together again one day."
Please join Katherine's family in celebrating her remarkable life with a time of visitation on Monday, November 30th, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church 104 S. San Marcos Street, Buda, TX. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm. Graveside services will commence on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 at the Lake Chapel Cemetery, seven miles northeast of Fairfield on Farm-to-Market road 488, Fairfield, Texas, 75840.
Please keep Katherine's family and friends in your prayers as they heal from their loss.
