November 13, 1971 - November 26, 2020

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to her family through the "Support Family" link on her obituary page or they may be directed to the Kris Ostwald Benefit Fund fund established at Iowa State Bank, 415 East State Street, Algona, IA 50511.

On November 13, 1971, Kristin Kaye was born to Richard and Julie (Reed) Droessler of Bancroft. At a very early age, Kris learned that she was chef of the house and would make delicious meals for her family and the many gatherings that were held at the farm.

Kris attended St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft until 1989 when the high school closed and she then transferred to North Kossuth High School in Swea City graduating in 1990. She attended the University of Iowa before moving back home to attend Iowa Lakes Community College to become a registered nurse.

She began working at the Bancroft Clinic - Kossuth Regional Health Center where her love and compassion truly shined for the patients who entered the door. This compassion and her big heart truly stood out as she would help anybody at any time.
Kris was well known for her pizza making and her baking skills. She was the top chef at Leisure Lanes Bowling Alley in Bancroft making hundreds and hundreds of pizza each year.

The bowling alley is where she met the love of her life, Randy Ostwald "Oz". It may not have been love at first sight, but it was a love that could not be broken. Oz and Kris were married on April 25, 2005. To this union, Oz brought three children, Shaunya, Brandon and Anne, who she loved as her own.

Even though she enjoyed being a nurse, she had another calling - baking. In 2005, she decided to retire from nursing to start her own business - The Cake Ladys. Kris, along with the help of her family, baked everything from gingerbread men to wedding cakes. She also catered meals to local businesses where she was able to continue to touch so many lives.

In addition to Oz, her other greatest love was the love for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews teaching them how to crack eggs into a bowl almost before they could walk.

Kris had a heart of gold and she could not say no to anyone. She would open her home to those in need. She was always there to listen to the mundane complaints to the life changing events happening in someone's life. She gave and gave, her time, her baking goods and donating Scentsy products she sold to help with benefits to aid in others' needs.

In 2018, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma which caused her arm to break and ended her pizza making and baking business. During her long and courageous fight with cancer, she continued to spread her positivity and happiness through her snapchats and text messages she sent every day to everyone she knew.

At the young age of 49, Kris was called to Lord on November 26, 2020. Despite her many struggles in her life, she never lost her faith.

Kris is survived by her husband, Randy Ostwald of Bancroft, her children, Anne Ostwald and her fiancé Jason Carney of Boone, Brandon Ostwald and Stephanie Schiltz of Algona, Shaunya Smith and her husband, Aaron of Corwith, her mom, Julie Droessler of Bancroft, siblings, Kim and Clint Meyer of Swea City, Deb Kajewski of Burt, Jeff and Jasmine Droessler of Johnston, and Kevin and Cynthia Kain of Raleigh, NC; her in-laws Melvin and Shirley Ostwald of Whittemore; and brother-in-law Mark Ostwald of Whittemore; godparents Don and Diane Reed of Harcourt; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, a great niece, and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Richard; and her grandparents, Max and Joyce Reed and Frank and Agnes Droessler.

A private family service was held at this time.
