John Vernon Spivey, 73, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, from cancer, while at home with his wife, Nancy Ann Spivey. John was the son of the late Richard W. Spivey and Laura (Peele) Spivey, and brother of the late Richard W. Spivey Jr.
John is survived by his children, step children, and their partners, Stephanie Spivey and the late Oscar Mercado of Somerset, MA, Laura (Spivey) Harvie and John Lesieur of Middleboro, MA, Daniel Noyes and Valerie Weagle of Auburn, MA, Jonathan and Rheanna Noyes of Newbury Park, CA, and Katrina Noyes and Colin Zollo of Standish, ME, his brother, Doug Spivey of Kelford, NC, and sisters Donna Spivey and Rebecca Uzzell of Winterville, NC. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and was anticipating the birth of his first great grandchild.
John was born and raised in Kelford, North Carolina, and served in the United States Air Force at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod and then in Vietnam. He lived in Brockton for many years before moving to Plymouth, Worcester, and then Marion. He received an associates degree, and worked hard as a glass installer for many years. His hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening and woodworking, and going for drives to see what adventures could be found. His homemade sauce and pickles were in great demand, and every piece of furniture and decoration he made will be cherished.
The greatest joy in John's life was his grandchildren, Corey Spivey, Marrissa Spivey, Mariah (Spivey) Cantrell, Christopher Spivey, Nicholas Spivey, Julia Harvie, Patrick Harvie, Brenden Harvie, Eva Marie Noyes, Phoebe Noyes, Joelle Noyes, Annette Noyes, Zoey Weagle, and Ellie Weagle. He never hesitated to play on the floor or in the dirt and laugh with them for hours on end. These memories are magical and his family is so grateful for them.
A celebration of life will be held for John in the spring, when the flowers start to bloom. Donations in his memory can be made to Beacon Hospice (through the Amedisys Foundation) or your local food bank.
